Bottle from MaltOMeal at the February Houston Tasting. Thanks, Bill! Pours a thick cheddar orange with an aroma of strawberry kolache and sugar bread. Flavor is leafy, pond scum hops with weird fruit swirls. Thick mouthfeel. Eh, it’s okay.

2007 bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective barley wine tasting on 3.14.09. Cloudy amber color with a medium off-white head. Grainy malt aroma with some alcohol mixed in. Flavor is pretty much the same with some hop balance in the finish. Good stuff.

February Houston Tasting. Thanks to Maltomeal for bringing this. Pours a rich gold with a thin head. Nose of malt, sweetness and grapefruit. Flavor is apricots, red grapefruit. Smooth and rich...great beer.

07 bottle. Big thanks to Bobby91w for this one! Pours a murky amber with a thin, dense, light tan head that fades to a film. Aroma has a bunch of citrus hops, a ton of big caramel malts, and breakfast cereal (grain). Flavor shows the alcohol, but certainly doesn’t seem like 12%. Tons of smooth, malty goodness with a great hop backbone - it’s great when it’s this mellow, but I’d love to try it fresh, too - the hop oils have definitely broken down. Some apple and grapefruit notes, as well. Really, really good - FFF doesn’t fail to impress. Can’t wait to try more from them.

On tap at FFF brewpub - Pours a hazy amber with a very little head. It’s all hops on the nose, which was unexpected. Taste is an intense hops blast right off the bat, progressing into a malty mellowness. There are some carmel flavors, maybe a little toffee. Real thin on the mouth...again, surprising. Overall, a great beer, but not what I thought it was going to be.

Rotten Apple tasting. Light amber color. Tan head with nice lacing that fills the glass. Aroma is not big and offers grassy and citrus hop. Amazingly smooth feel. Alcohol warming but only faintly tasted. Hop presence comes late and big. Excellent!

Holy $#!%, this is one of the best beers I have ever had. It looks perfect, smells beautiful and is extremely complex. You could write a book to describe it. Do not take my word for it, buy it, try it, love it.

Bottle at Jerry’s. Copper with big, creamy beige head / Nose of fresh cut pine / Medium to full body, good balance between some sweet malts and sharp hops, with good finish / Flavors of fresh cut pine, resin, burnt sugar, grapefruit, and orange / Very good, a double ipa really, but overpriced.
