Very rich beer with a great aroma of caramel and malty sweetness. Flavor is bold with caramel, toffee, dates and a sweet, bright hoppiness.

Dec 19, 2009 yellow wax bottle. pours dark copper with a thin head. aroma is sweet with caramel and malt. mouthful is a big malty bomb with some caramel and sweetness. little bit of citrus and hops come around for the finish. great for the style.

Dec 13, 2009 Sampled at Darkness Day and I forget which vintage...damn me...Anyways, pours a hazy red brown with little head. Aroma is very well balanced of citrus hops, caramel malts, and small sweet notes of alcohol. Flavor is bitter sweet. Palate is smooth, thick and lush...very solid beer. Barley wines are hit or miss and this definitely hits.

Dec 6, 2009 650 ml bottle. A reddish amber body with a fine off-white head. Aroma of heavy malt and lots of floral hops. Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, dry fruit some alcohol and quite bitter. Its complex and very balanced, lots of everything but nothing to overwhelming. Full body with a long, sweet and bitter finish, both citric and floral bitterness. Really nice.

Dec 5, 2009 bottle, 2007 vintage courtesy of Ughsmash, pours light brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is brown sugar and grapefruit and citrus hop notes. Flavor is nice and sweet with toasted malts, candy sugar and yeast and just a faint remnance of hops leaving a light bitterness. Nice and creamy, a great sipping beer.

Dec 3, 2009 2009 bottle picked up at DLD 09. Clear pumpkin/amber colored pour, almost no carbonation and a very rich malt, flowers and alcohol aroma. Flavor is syrupy caramelly malts, muddled herbs, and finished with lingering booze and hops. Barley Wines are generally hit or miss with me, but I really liked this one.

Dec 1, 2009 Tasted 2009-11-29. 2008 bottle. After having been on a little beer hiatus, I found this one sitting alone in the fridge. We thought: "yeah, why not", and took it out to warm up a bit. It ended the hiatus; That fat bitch on the label is one tasty mama... It poured quite hazy and had very well rounded notes of malt, spices and even some hops after all this time. Now to revisit the cellar to see what other jewels I forgot I had. (If I’m not mistaken there’s a case of Westy 12 down there partying with their good friend Lou Pepe.)

Nov 21, 2009 I believe this was compliments of Stevey, anyways, it poured an orange/amber hue, formed small off beige head of foam. Aroma was more pungent of hops, pine resins and malt. The flavour was that of an Imperial IPA, much smoother than most BW beers, hops and malty caramel goodness balance this beer, making abv well hidden, thus dangerous. Most excellent beer.
