Draft sample at IBG Winterfest 2009. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting and had good lacing. Good nuts malt, coconut and citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Moderate to heavy bittersweet smooth flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. Standout brew.

Notes from the Indy Winterfest Pours hazy light brown. The aroma is odd and interesting - sweet, candy, cloves. The flavor is weird, but good, I didn’t write more than that. Palate is normal. Overall, an interesting beer.

Bad. Ass. Brew. On tap at the brew pub. Dark brown pour. Big, strong aroma. Flavor is pala santo wood, strong caramel malt and some alcohol. Bourbony and yeasty. Really great.

On tap at 3F on a chilly Sunday afternoon sandwiched between Bourbon Behemoths. Clear brown with a lacy white head. Nose is peat, wood and clove bubblegum. Medium light with a touch of carb. Taste is star anise, toffee, scotch and malt. Excellent stuff but so much going on it was hard to take it in. The waiter told me this was Robert the Bruce and three other brews aged in Palo Santo at Dogfish Head.

Sample @ Winterfest: Very much enjoyed the chance to sample this...pour was a dark brown, mostly clear. Just like drewbeerme before me, I got tons of coconut right off the bat on this one...other notes of dark fruits, belgian candy and some subtle roastiness. Much crisper than anticipated...flavor was big roasted malts, dark fruits soaked in booze and had a dry, woodsy hop finish. Good stuff.

on tap at the brewpub. pours hazy amber with off white head. nose is loaded with coconut, just tons of coconut, some licorice and dark fruit as well. flavor is mostly coconut, wood, dark fruit, and spice. med body. this was almost undrinkable at first with this odd coconut dominated profile but after letting it sit I ended up enjoying more.

[Draft at the brewpub] Poured a lightly hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, herbal, wood, toffee malts, mint, and some citrus. Taste of caramel malts, wood, bourbon, citrus, vanilla, mint leaf, some nuts, and light alcohol in the finish.
