Three Floyds Black Sun Stout

Black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma of chocolate and hints of coffee. Flavor mirrors the aroma. Nice full bodied with good carbonation. I expected more hops on the nose and in the beer, but it had been in the frige for over a year. Still pretty damn nice.

This is amazing. Black pour,light tan head. Big three floyds hops aroma. Flavor is hoppy, lots of citrus chocoaltey, and amazing 3F hops. the hops in this stout are the standout. Nice mouthfeel. Overall, Great, bitter, stout.

22 oz bottle. After an initial whiff i find it hard to believe that this actually a stout since there is such a significant hop profile in the aroma, which definitely peaks my interest immediately, so i have to give some extra points for that alone. Notes of highly floral hops, sweet fruits, and good amount of dry roasted coffee malts. This is a very attractive stout as well, with a small layer of cappuccino cream head, and medium looking dark mahogany color. A very appealing looking and smelling beer. The taste fits nicely into how i expected it based on the smell. Lots of roasted malts, including coffee, nuts, and minor sweet caramel, come through from the start and stay strong through out. Of course what makes this one a very unique and highly enjoyable beer is the 3fs floral hop bitterness that completely add to the experience of a traditionally malty alcoholic beverage. Smooth all the way, and a dry finish. A great experience.

Black hole sun, won’t you come, and wash away the rain. Dark brown with a medium brown head. Aroma of Three Floyds hops (Amarillo?) and roasted malt. Taste of those FFF hops again, floral hops, roasted malt and chocolate. Smooth body and more generously hopped than most stouts, but I like this one.

220z bottle. Pours black with a foamy, tan head. Aroma is of hops, caramel, chocolate, nuts, and coffee. Taste is of earthy hops, chocolate, nuts, coffee, vanilla, and sugar. Has an underyling backbone of light toasted malt. Lingering hop taste. Light, creamy mouthfeel. Needs more booze in the body. Drinkable, but the flavors are slightly muted.

Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Thanks Bill for this one. Pours a very dark black pour with a tan, caramel head full of small bubbles. Aggressively hopped, with a very strong chocolate malt backbone. Finishes dry with those aggressively spicy hops kicking in. Weird for a "dry stout", but all in all pretty good.

Bottle sampled at the Hopsnobbery Collective stout tasting on 1.16.09. Black color, as the name would suggest, with a medium tan head. Sweet aroma with a bit of hop that seems a bit off. Dry coffee flavor with some alcohol and a malty finish. Not bad, but I expected it to be better.
