My Mom flew this beer back for me from Indiana, great pick Mom! It is a very dark brown, not quite black. There was little to no head, with a little lacing. It has great clarity, but looks a little thin. Note- I don’t really care that much about appearance. Aroma- friggin awesome. I know this sounds really corny, but it reminded me of a forest in the rain. It was a fresh aroma, woody with vanilla in front; roast malt in the back. I smelled this beer for awhile. Taste- Really nice balance between aroma hops and malt, with a hop bite at the end. Not too hoppy at all. Vanilla was still there, with lots of roasted barley. Mouthfeel, the beer was lighter in body, which made it easy to drink. If I ever make it to Munster I will go to the brewery strictly for Black Sun.

Bottle. Pours black with brown translucent edges when put up to a light. The tan head quickly diminishes but creates some decent lacing. The aroma is very, very interesting. Lots of hops, chocolate, and some burnt cardboard notes. The initial flavours are rather interestin as well, because some weren’t noticeable in the aroma. All kinds of citrus is apparent, from darker citrus, to a little pineapple, apple, and kiwi. Hops make a big appearance with the citrus. Some roasted notes start to creep through along with a slight bitterness. Towards the finish, chocolate becomes more apparent. The roasted notes bursts, complementing the chocolate quite well. Citrus becomes overwhelmed by the other flavours, but is still noticeable towards the end. Apple seems to be the flavour that becomes more apparent than the rest. Light bitterness mixes well with a subtle chocolate sweetness. The finish is quite smooth. This is very, very tasteful.

Dark brown with an eggshell head that seems unmatched to the body. Very unique for the style, with attributes of both an IPA and stout. Rich chocolate, dry-roasted Columbian coffee, and caramel contrast a slight citrus and pine underbelly. Interesting. Rather thin but enjoyable. Definitely a tasty beer but not on par with the big boys.

Shared with HogTownHarry, Harrys bottle (as always!!) Appearance: Deep black with a small frothy tan head. Aroma: WTF??? Harry warned me but my God... It’s an IPA! No wait, there is some burned malt in there, but wow, that is unique. Flavour: Creamy, silky hoppy and malty, some peppermint? So smooth, a lovely coffee bitter finish, simply superb!

Another brew shared by bruce. Bottle about three years old. A little disappointed but for a dry stout it is not that bad... Light black in color with a small head. It was a light stout. Malty and sugar thrown in. Just to light for my liking... Thanks again Bruce for sharing.

Bottled sample from the brewery. Shared it with Piscator. We were a bit stressed at the lack of bublles at the start of puring, but the carbonation was perfect. Surprisingly hopped for a stout. Great beer.

Tasted at the April Northern California Beer Tasting. This stout poured a dark black color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized tan foamy head. The aroma is coffee, chocolate and a touch of diacetyl. Medium bodied stout. The malts are burnt malt, chocolate and coffee. The hops are piney and resinous. Kind of weird in an imperial stout. Decent balance. Good carbonation. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and crisp. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
