Commercial Description:
Dry and surprisingly light-bodied. Malty sweetness and caramel flavors shift to distinctive dry-roasted malt notes.

22oz Bomber Recieved this in a trade from my RB Secret Santa, thanks Melvin. An aggressive pour brought about a fingers worth of tan creamy head that settled to a thick crown. Black body with no light coming throuhg at any point. Leaves patchy lacing here and there. Although the aroma is fairly simple it’s no less appetizing. There’s a light roastiness with a mild nuttiness and mild lactic creaminess. There’s also some dark fruit, as it warms, adding a sweetness that compliments the roastiness nicely. There a hint of the nuttiness throught but it’s faint. Black Sun is medium bodied with a slightly prickly carbonation which at certain times feels a little too prickly. This is a beer I could enjoy all night. Big flavor from a more standard abv stout. The abv really helps the drinkability. Another good beer from Three Floyds. I’ve always passed this beer up because the pricetag is pretty hefty considering the abv. I’m glad I got to give it a shot. Although the price tag is high I would pick a bottle of this up occasionally. This is a solid stout from Three Floyds. The aroma translates pretty well into the flavor. Light roastiness is the canvas with a splash of lactic creaminess here and dark fruit there. The dark fruit shows up on the backend. 1/20/08

22oz bomber poured into a glass. dark black pour, little head until i poured more aggressively and then i ended up with one about 1 inch thick. smells of chocolate and light coffee. appearance is dark black with a slight ring of head remaining after the initial pour. slight lacing. smoke, coffee, sweet tastes. medium bodied and leaves a slight coating in your mouth which hangs around

Draft. Pours jet black. Has the aroma of roastiness and chocolate if you concentrate to get past the most hop aroma I’ve ever experinced with a stout. Tastes roasty and malty sweet finishing with hops the way only 3 Floyds can

September 2006 - wonderful salty nose- almost like sea air (I wrote this down - was I drunk?). Dark brown color, small head n top. Chocolate malt taste- a bit sweet. Interesting and good.

I was a little let down by this - very strange coming from my favorite brewery. Not bad by any means, but there are alot of better options out there when it comes to basic dry stout. Lots of hops, no surprise there. Maybe not enough alcohol to be sipped, and too much body to be sucked down like your average everyday stout.

I was really surprised with this one. Liked this one a lot better than most. Jet black pour of course, small head. Awesome lacing. Absolutely the hoppiest stout that I’ve ever smelled or tasted. Mixture of hops and malt and chocolate on the smell. Big time hop presence on the taste here. Starts hoppy, fades to malt and chocolate and then finishes with the hop presence again. Another awesome FFF brew.

Bottle. Pours with a deep black body with an olive-green head, but the beer is too lively (at least too noticeably lively) for my taste. Smells of mocha coffee, roasted nut, and chocolate-covered cherry. Flavor is dry roasted nut with a cocoa powder finish. Average mouthfeel. Decent stout, but finish is a tad too dry for me.
