Commercial Description:
Dry and surprisingly light-bodied. Malty sweetness and caramel flavors shift to distinctive dry-roasted malt notes.

Pours black as coal with a thin dissapating tan head.Aromas of hops and coffee. The hop presence was too much for me.The finish was hop bitterness.

Bottle from Discount Liquor. Pours a deep brown bordering on what could be black. Clear as in not hazy or cloudy. Nose is rather dull with a bit of smoky, roasted malts. Ehhh, only okay. Thin on the tongue which I detest.

Aroma is roasty and bitter. Pours black and when I hold it up to light I cannot see through it. The beer also has a pretty dark brown head. Flavor is alot of coffee taste with some strong initial hop bitterness. As the hop flavors dissipate, more espresso like flavors coat the mouth. Very dry finish.

My third bomber of Black Sun, as far as I can recall, and I’m still not feeling it as much as most raters. I’m a fan of the brewery and the style, but I feel that this one - while very solid and generally above average - sort of falls short of the mark. First, there’s a trace of oxidation. While I was looking for that lovely, gentle roast that you get in the best dry stouts, I found something too close to a thinly hopped bitterness. Not bad, but not what I want. Second, since the brew moves away from classic dry stout qualities, it’s also surprisingly thin in the body, with an insubstantial presence that undercuts the malt presence. Like I said, it’s a solid brew but I find it short of expectations.

Bottled. Black colour, small brown head. Aroma is slightly roasted, coffeeish and also some sourness. Flavour is roasted malts, coffee and some chocolate. Quite sour also. Pleasant thing, with quite dry palate.

Bottle @ Chris_o shindig 2007. Dark black color with a small, fizzy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light brown head. Aroma is moderate malty, dark chocolate, strong coffee, roasted. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration. Witn a nice dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.
