Aug 7, 2007 Bottled - Chris O shindig 2007 - A black beer with little head. The aroma is oily, hoppy and fishy. Licquorice notes but suprisingly no roast. The taste has fruit and light roast. Chocolate and hops also. Some hints of sweetness. Tasty.

Aug 7, 2007 Updated: Aug 23, 2009Black with a brown head. Toffee and chocolate aromas, with a blackberry note and some alcohol, not all that complex. Sweet chocolate and roasted flavour with a long lasting roast aftertaste. I was not as impressed as others around the table.

Jul 23, 2007 22 oz bottle from Capones. Pours opaque black with a beautiful dark beige head that displayed excellent retention. The lacing provided ringlets of beige that stuck to the snifter. The scent was of chocolate, roasted nuts, toffee, and coffee notes. The taste was very complex, almost like an imperial stout with notes of coffee, malt, roastiness and chocolate swirling around together. I was very impressed with how much there was going on in this dry stout. Excellent!

Jul 18, 2007 Dark black with a bubbly head, and lace. Very hoppy, with bittersweet chocolate. Significant burnt and sour characteristics.

Jul 7, 2007 Pours very opaque, which belies its surprising lightbodied-ness. Aroma is not too strong, but has a sort of bitey zinging quality to it. Flavor is clean and incomplex. Dry, roasty, hints of coffee. I think this is a great example of this style. Certainly not heavy or thick like many of this beers stout-brothers, but roasty and thoroughly enjoyable. (Wouldn’t pay $12 for it again though!)

Jul 1, 2007 Aroma is interesting, touch of vanilla, some spice, but something almost sharp hiding in the background. The beer itself is an opaque black, with a thin tan head that fades away quickly. First, the body is really light, not what I was expecting at all. The flavor seems to have something I can’t place in it, something that causes it to have a bit of astringency in the beer. Overall, glad I tried it, but there’s a whole lot better out there for a far better price.
