Commercial Description:
Dry and surprisingly light-bodied. Malty sweetness and caramel flavors shift to distinctive dry-roasted malt notes.

Pours very opaque, which belies its surprising lightbodied-ness. Aroma is not too strong, but has a sort of bitey zinging quality to it. Flavor is clean and incomplex. Dry, roasty, hints of coffee. I think this is a great example of this style. Certainly not heavy or thick like many of this beers stout-brothers, but roasty and thoroughly enjoyable. (Wouldn’t pay $12 for it again though!)

Aroma is interesting, touch of vanilla, some spice, but something almost sharp hiding in the background. The beer itself is an opaque black, with a thin tan head that fades away quickly. First, the body is really light, not what I was expecting at all. The flavor seems to have something I can’t place in it, something that causes it to have a bit of astringency in the beer. Overall, glad I tried it, but there’s a whole lot better out there for a far better price.

Just OK and way overpriced (thus the 10 overall rating - would’ve been 13 otherwise).

Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of biscuits and chocolate with some dark fruits. Flavor is much the same with hops added. Needs more thickness and strength, but a good, if expensive, session beer.

A very good stout, it just lacks depth. I think that if this thing had a little bit more body to go along with the wet hop, chocolate biscuit. Very surprisingly light bodied, i just wish it would linger. Good, and very sessionable.

650mL bottle, courtesy of hopscotch. Thanks, Eric! Pours a dark brown color; medium tan head with patchy lacing. Surprisingly fruity aroma; dark chocolate and biscuity malts. Medium mouthfeel (slightly watery): bitter chocolate and citrus hops, with some red fruits. Medium, bitter chocolate finish.

22 oz bomber. Poured a thick deep dark black that no light could possibly penetrate with a small light brown head. Aroma was freeze dried espresso and vanilla. Flavor was similiar with an overall freeze dried flavor but still very pleasant none the less. Good beer, not great like you would believe since it’s a FFF but good overall.

Appearance: Pours a black-brown body with a tan-colored head. Smell: Rich chocolate malt aroma with notes of light, roasted coffee and smoke. The nose has an intense floral hoppiness to it, too. That much I assure you. Taste: Flavors of dark chocolate and vanilla creme upfront that are quickly overcome bitterness. Hmm. Well, this beer certainly took an (unexpected?) detour into rather bitter territories. Herbaceous, piney bitterness continues to last through the dry, chalky finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, but this beer has a remarkabe viscousness to it. Drinkability: Pretty good beer, all things considered. I could’ve used more chocolatiness, though.
