Opaque brown color, fluffy head. Licorice middle, bitter chocolate sweetness. Some hops in the end and a little salty. Drying bitter end. Big beer for sure. Good stuff. EithCubes (2162), Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 18, 2007 Rating No. 1075. Bottle. This is just too hard to find in Indiana. Sweet malty aroma with impy notes (chocolate and roast levels are that high) leaning toward milk chocolate, with surprising hoppiness. Opaque motor oil pour with a foamy dark brown head. Initial taste is strong sourness, soon overtaken by stronger bittersweet roast coffee. Chocolate creeps in but stays behind that salty roast. Rather light-bodied, very drinkable. Slight hop tingle begins on the tip of the tongue and lasts into the throat. Dryish, bitterish, slightly sourish finish with milk chocolate and medium-strength grapefruit tones lingering in the aftertaste. The hops make it a stylish brew, and the grapefruit notes really do harmonize. The advertised flavor - including hues of cherry, vanilla, and dried fruit - is absent, but that’s not a knock on what is present (a robust, delicious session). | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 11, 2007 Black pour, medium density. A small beige head forms, with moderate retention and leaving thin lacing in its wake. Aroma is all pine, very hoppy. Biting roastiness follows. Notes of molasses, chocolate, coffee, fresh vanilla, caramel all very distinguishable. Flavor is extremely hoppy and very bitter, the hoppiest beer that’s this dark that I can recall. Light sweetness and light astringency coupled with bold roastiness gently subdue much of the hops; balance at this velocity of flavor seems unlikely though. The chocolate character is chalky and spicy. Fnishes very dry and hoppy, chcolate lingering for some time. Mouthfeel is well-rounded, somewhat balanced and medium-full bodied. Very enjoyable, highly charismatic. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA

Light coffeehoppy taste. I can get any time but got it in a trade so I had to drink it. Pretty good better then I thought it would be. oakbluff (300), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 9, 2007 Shared courtesy of the ever generous piscator34. Thanks Kris!! This is one tasty brew. Beautiful looking stout with a great nose of roasty hoppy goodness. This is a complex brew that is really telling on how complex brew doesn’t need to be a booze bomb. Roasty, medium body and medium carbonation with a cascade hop kick at the tail end. Finishes very nicely. Great session stout and holds its own against its bigger brothers. Well done FFF! Pours deep brown/black with a good sized dark tannish head that disappears quickly. Very rich aroma with strong smells of coffee, hops and cherry. Tastes just like it smells with a chocolate finish. A great stout worthy of high praise. I love it! piscator34 (1131), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 28, 2007 Updated: May 9, 2007Bomber via mnurda, but sampled with oakbluff. Black in colour with medium carbonation. Big American C-hop aromas upfront with notes of citrus, black pepper, and herbs, followed up by some dark roasted malt notes. Some caramel sweetness upfront along with some strong chocolate and coffee character. The hops re-assert themselves near the end and integrate surprisingly well with the dry roasted finish. I’m shocked at how well the high hop rate seems to work within the context of a session stout. Fantastic stuff.
