The aroma did have an underlying malty sweetness, but was mainly pork sausages and greasy bacon. The malts provided enough sweetness in the flavor to balance out the sturdy bacon and Virginia ham smokiness. Nice, and went well with the pretzels, sausages, and spicey mustard that I was eating. But then, I enjoy good smoked beers, so this would have paired well with water cress sandwiches and orange Pez. drewbeerme (2302), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 22, 2009 Pour is very hazy, almost wheat looking with some nice white head. Not much smoke, but the nose is quite malty with plenty of noble hops. The smoke come through subtly in the flavor but does not hinder the yummy Maibock. Full body and a dry finish. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Interesting must try beer. Smells like a helles and tastes like a smoke beer. Typical bacon/smokey flavor but combined with nice lager flavors. HonkeyBra (1355), Lemont, Illinois, USA

Aroma is smoke and bacon, with some malt sweetness. Flavor is smokey, bacon, jerky, meat. Really smokey example of a smoked here. Nice mouthfeel. Pretty cool beer. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 26, 2009 Imperial pint served draft at the brewpub (Munster, IN). Pours a hugely glowing golden hue, a bit orange, luminescent with moderate bright white head that sticks around, dies a little, laces well. Aromas are smokey meats, mesquite and ashy woods, pork and BBQ with light sweetness lying underneath. Largely, smoke dominant, bacon. Man-Heaven. Initial is lighter bodied, throwing some good smoked meat, bacon and BBQ wood tastes, light sweetness underneath. Finish is long and smokey, a lasting meatiness, smoke, moving to sweet malts quickly, a bit grainy and bitter. I’d prefer a more sustained smokey finish, but this beer is quite interesting. I’ve really started to enjoy smokes, and this one is lighter bodied for all of us who just want to pound bacon all day.. Ya know? Cheers, guys!
