Sweet caramel and toffee malt flavors. Finish is...sweet cloying. Thick but not heavy. Fruity yeasty and sweet! Great brew! Piney and raisins. Lively and tart. Sugary. Man...this is really good! I guess that this is my type o’ beer! sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 9, 2006 i didn’t like it much. i didn’t like the glass it was served in. the flavor was pretty overpowering, and not necessarily in the way you want it to be. i did have a pretty thick black sun before it, so i’d give it another chance perhaps, but i don’t think i’d pay for it. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 22, 2006 On tap at the brewpub 12/16/2005: Pours a muddy earthy dark brown with a thin, short-lived light tan head and lots of sediment. Nice, sweet dark caramel and mildly peaty aroma. Full, viscous palate has a hint of light fruit and a smooth, lightly sweet finish. Judging by seeing other peoples’ pours later that evening, which were transparent, I’m guessing I got the beginning (or end) of the barrel. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 21, 2006 Ugh. Let me preface this by saying I had a Broodoo and Dreadnaught before this one. However, I had some cheese and bread between so my palate should have been clean. All I could think about while drinking this is that it tasted so much like apple juice that it wasn’t beer. That might be a result from the aforementioned circumstances but this beer is lame. A lot of alcohol and no real flavor. I do not recommend. cherr (162), Rochester, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 14, 2006 I had this on tap in the brewpub. This is really just a maltier version of the robert the bruce. There is a bit more alcohol and overall very good. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 14, 2006 Nice aroma but nothing special. Pours dark and has a nice foamy head to it. The taste is much like the original Robert the Bruce but this one is smoother and more complex. Not complex enough though if you ask me. Was a little let down and was expecting something stronger, but it is a smooth drink if you don’t want something harsh. cdog69 (28), Richmond, Virginia, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 31, 2005 This beer produces a nutty/hoppy aroma with the hint of anise in the background. This beer resides in the glass as a black solution with a slight off-white head. This beer is moderately heavy with a mild sweet taste consisting of anise and chocolate. The palate is left holding on to a nice sweet remembrance.
