This beer poured a slick, oily dark brown with a bubbly head of dark tan foam that lasted a little white. Just a touch of slippery lacing was left behind. The aroma of the beer was made up of sweet bourbon notes along with a nice roasted malt backbone. The flavor included bourbon, wood, coffee, and burnt malts. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied with very mild carbonation. A nicely done barrel-aged beer. The bourbon blends in nicely with the original beer. AmEricanbrew (2005), Almost, Texas, USA

Big bourbon/oak vanilla aroma with dry blackened malts. Medium body with a very smooth slick mouthfeel. Great taste mirrors the aroma with sweet bourbon/vanilla mixing nicely with bitter chocolate and roasty blackened malt flavors. Liked this one more than the DL. sliffy (2012), Columbus, Ohio, USA

Aroma, fruity citrus hops, bourbon, chocolate and vanilla. Flavor, pine, citrus, some fruits, an earthy bitterness, bittersweet chocolate, bourbon notes. I thought it was a bit more full bodied than regular black sun. I loved it. mixinnixon2000 (227), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Had it next to a Darklord so my judgment may have been a little altered. to me it wasn’t too different for the original Black Sun Stout. some added flavors including Bourbon and vanilla. Overall a good brew. Cornfield (4980), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2008 It poured a deep brown body that at times looked black in the glass and had a slender tan head. The aroma had Bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, licorice (or, was that from a drink I had earlier in the day?), and a woody bitterness. The Bourbon came through much stronger in the flavor, but a splash of runny chocolate also joined the fray and a mild hoppy bitterness finally introduced itself. Probably too light a beer for the BBA treatment, but not bad.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 4, 2008 Pour is black with ruby highlights and a thin sticky brown head...smell is sweet and roasty with strong wood and bourbon notes...oddly, almost alcoholic still...taste is STRONGLY bourbon...almost overpoweringly so...light roasty flavors in the finish...nice chewy mouthfeel...hides some of the odd characteristics of regular blacksun (thinness, imbalanced [strongly hoppy])....over the top though.... holdenn (1454), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 3, 2008 On tap at DLD 08 thanks to someone for waiting in the long long line to bring out a pour of this. Pours a thick black color with a beige head. Lots of black licorice/anise in the nose. I wasn’t expecting that, but it was enjoyable. Chocolate, bourbon and dough notes underneath that dominating anise. Lightly sweet chocolate, bourbon, and roasted malts. Not great, but a decent beer. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 2, 2008 Draft at DLD 08. Pours dark, almost black with a tan head. Aromas of bourbon, coffee, and hops. Very bourbon dominated in the taste, however Love bourbon and whiskey so this was a good thing to me. Other notes of coffee and caramel in the taste. Was a small glass fro the 5 bucks I spent on it wish I had some more to drink.
