My least favorite beer from DLD. I am just not a fan of BA beers where the Bourbon dominates the beer. Just seems like a waste of good beer to me. I wouldn’t call *this* one a waste, but but the borbon was dangerously close to overpowering the very good Blackout Stout. Poured pitch black. Very creamy mouthful, lots of chocolate roasted barley, malt, hops and carmel in this one. Notes of vanilla and coffee. When chilled, the bourbon lays back, adding complexity, but as the beer warms, it comes forward and the other flavors start to diminish. A very nice "warmer" though, and it did wonders while standing in the cold lines at DLD!

Draft... DLD ‘08... This beer rocks!... Tar black ale with a small, creamy, tan head. The aroma offers strong notes of espresso, chocolate and bourbon with a touch of vanilla. Oily and full-bodied with a silky-smooth mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. Burnt bitterness follows closely behind bourbony chocolate and vanilla sweetness. Whiskey-warm, chocolate and blackstrap finish. If ever there was a beer totally reconstructed by barrel aging, this is it!

Cool to find this at 3F’s. Aroma was nice, roasty, citrus and a little bourbon. Taste was much the same, the roastiness played well off the light citrus hops, then the wood and bourbon came through and rounded it all out. Pretty drinkable as well. Nothing over the top, but well done.

Draft @ 3F. Pours a very dark chocolate color; light tan head with patchy lacing. Lots of coffee grounds, boozy bourbon, and some roasted character in the aroma; mostly, lots of bold coffee. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: coffee grounds, toasty bourbon and dense, chewy chocolate; excellent, dense stuff, with just a touch too much raw coffee. Lengthy finish: loads of coffee, chocolate, toasted malts and roast; very much a coffee-ground dominated beer.

Draft @ DLD: Pour was pretty black with no head. Nice dark malt and bourbon-based nose with little else of note except some mild oak and espresso notes. A bit more body to this than the regular Black Sun and a very nice oak/bourbon balance to it...some of the chocolate essence came through on the flavor that I found missing in the aroma. Very good stuff.

tap at the brewpub on DLD. thanks to jeremy’s buddy for bringing us out two samplers on his exit.... poured a somewhat thin blackish-brown pour with not much head to it at all..... aroma was light bourbon and had some traces of sour red fruit coming from the oak.... flavor was of chocolate, more of that oak, with a mild bourbon influence.... this had lost all the hops that made the black sun enjoyable. not bad though.

Wow I may have liked this more than the actual Dark Lord... Its definetly a diferent flavor, very heavy on the Bourbon and thinner. Great smell and kind of random that I even had a chance to taste it. Not a huge fan of normal Black Sun so I am surprised this was so good.

On tap DLD08. Dark brown almost black, slight head. Oaky, light bourbon aroma, some roastiness. Somewhat sweet, balanced flavor. Light roast. Very light palate.
