Commercial Description:
Ireland's first and last Ard Ri (high king) of the whole Gaelic race, Brian Boru was born in Munster Ireland around 940. His mother was killed by Vikings when he was a child. He spent his life uniting the Irish tribes to become the first king of Ireland, only to be killed at Clontarf on Good Friday, 1014 putting down a rebellion by the King of the province of Leinster. Brian Boru Irish Brand Red Ale is a very rich caramelly ale with toffee, citrus, and pineapple aroma. Brian Boru is brewed with several malts and Amarillo hops. Slainte!

22 oz bottle. some caramel malt and a very light citrus/lemony hop aroma, not as potent as other 3fs. darker ruby red with some orange color (about the same color as the guy’s hair on the bottle), good light white head on the pour , went down quickly though, no lacing. flavor starts out with caramel malt with a slight bite, finishes nicely with a tofee/carmel flavor with mildly bitter, lemon hops that linger, great aftertaste. So as expected, this beer was nothing crazy, but had a great hop taste and just very solid overall for the style.

Bottle as a bonus courtesy StFun, pours deep ruddy brown with finger thick, cream colored head. Nose is pretty much straight forward malt. Maybe even a touch of rye. A bit earthy, gritty mid and finish.

Glassy crimson pour produces a thin bubbled beige head, quickly retreating and gathering itself in a shallow patch at the surface center. Pineapple aroma leaps out in front, declaratively. Strawberry jam, caramel, citrus aroma; warm, rotund toasted malts offer a swelling, rich sweetness that provides a strident complement to these particular notes of vibrant hops. Rich balanced flavor, brisk and autumnal; hops integrated, not bandied about. Red tea, toasted malt toffee, citrus rinds, some distant sweet-tartness of blackberry. There isn’t, interestingly, very much to gather from it, while concurrently the flavor seems full, compressed and polished. It’s dug out a path to satiating balance with hardly a single deviance in the interest of complexity. A quick, sweet flutter of florals mid palate. Medium body is somewhat slick and softly carbonated; finishes with a length of earthy, mulchy malt and gentle bitterness. Likeable, sessionable character, showing the best of both worlds at times; a punchy, hop assertive bruiser and a delicate, restrained pub style quencher in a single effort. Thanks Bill!

They just do it better. Pours a dark amber-red with a nice, frothy head. The aroma is hoppy with citrus aromas and toasted malts. It is full-bodied on the tongue. The flavor is toasted caramel and gentle hops. Very nice.

Pours a lightly hazy, dark crimson color. A frothy, foamy, beige colored head settles slowly to a wispy film, leaving sticky cobwebs of lacing behind. In signature Three Floyds fashion, the nose is quite hoppy, with notes of grapefruit, orange, and pineapple showing atop a toasted caramel and toffee malt base. Some cereal grains enhance the authenticity of the style as well. Flavors are well balanced, not too hoppy or too sweet. Grapefruit really asserts itself as the dominant bittering component, while toffee and toasted bread show the caramel who is boss. Medium bodied and smooth, there is a slightly lactic creaminess to the mouthfeel that really works well in this brew. I actually preferred this one on the colder side, as it seemed to get a bit muddled as it warmed. Overall, this is a very nice brew. They effectively imparted the bitterness of a hop bomb, without compromising the delicacies of the style. Bravo!

stereotypical but perfected irish red appearance, and aroma with a touch of hops. however, the palate is the star here, barely slick and slippery. malt has an almost smoked characteristic. perfectly carbonated and not too dissimilar from FFFs ’ham on rye’. as common as this style is, i avoided and put off this one amongst FFFs roster for too long, this is definately a plesant surprise and quite the underdog!

Bomber thanks to EithCubes. Pours a dark red with a thin white head. The aroma is full of hops, toffee, toasted malts, and some coffee. The taste was dominated not by the malt, but by a sweet hops and a fruity punch. The finish was mostly malt with a bit of bitterness. Damn good. This is a perfect example of a traditional style meeting a new American influence, and done well.
