Beautiful amber color. Aroma of roasted malts, nuttiness, citrus hops, and yeast. Great combination of flavors- citrus hops, pineapple, dried fruit, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, biscuity malts. Nice rich palate. valpoaj (363), Valparaiso, Indiana, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Brownish-red pour with a good sized white head. Sweet roasted malt and nut aroma with some fruity hop accents mixed throughout...pleasant! Flavor is much, much hoppier than any other irish/red ale I’ve had in the past (which obviously has helped to produce its high ratings compared to other reds)...but its not overly done. The hops are strong, but are integrated nicely, and are predominantly citrus (and yes, I can pick out the pineapple, which rears its head near the end of the sip...which is pretty sweet) In amongst the hops are a plethora of toffee/caramel malts, and the finish is mixed amongst bitter and sweet. Pretty heavy on the palate, but still an easy drinker...very oily! Unlike any other Irish Ale I’ve had before, but very well done nevertheless... ukoolaid (572), Amherst, Massachusetts, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours an amber red with foamy white head. Cool cascade on the pour. Aroma is juicy tropical fruits and strong grassy hops. Flavor is caramel malts and clean fresh grains, balanced well with floral hops. Mouthfeel is clean and juicy. That’s a damn tasty beer. Deep amber-red beer, very nutty and toasty aroma with a bit of light earthy hoppiness as well. Earthy with a kiss of Goldings aroma. Flavour is well-balanced, earthy and lightly spicy with a bit of soft nutty character over a sweet light maltiness. Good balanced and a nice session beer. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA
