Commercial Description:
Ireland's first and last Ard Ri (high king) of the whole Gaelic race, Brian Boru was born in Munster Ireland around 940. His mother was killed by Vikings when he was a child. He spent his life uniting the Irish tribes to become the first king of Ireland, only to be killed at Clontarf on Good Friday, 1014 putting down a rebellion by the King of the province of Leinster. Brian Boru Irish Brand Red Ale is a very rich caramelly ale with toffee, citrus, and pineapple aroma. Brian Boru is brewed with several malts and Amarillo hops. Slainte!

Thanks to me for bringing this to the Alesmith BA Release Party line tasting. Malty aromas off this reddish ale. Roasted caramel and some nuttiness. Similar flavors, but citrus hops kick in too. Pretty good.

On tap at Three Floyds. This one really surprised me, as I’m not a fan of the style. Beautiful amber color. Aroma of roasted malts, nuttiness, citrus hops, and yeast. Great combination of flavors- citrus hops, pineapple, dried fruit, roasted malts, caramel, toffee, biscuity malts. Nice rich palate.

Brownish-red pour with a good sized white head. Sweet roasted malt and nut aroma with some fruity hop accents mixed throughout...pleasant! Flavor is much, much hoppier than any other irish/red ale I’ve had in the past (which obviously has helped to produce its high ratings compared to other reds)...but its not overly done. The hops are strong, but are integrated nicely, and are predominantly citrus (and yes, I can pick out the pineapple, which rears its head near the end of the sip...which is pretty sweet) In amongst the hops are a plethora of toffee/caramel malts, and the finish is mixed amongst bitter and sweet. Pretty heavy on the palate, but still an easy drinker...very oily! Unlike any other Irish Ale I’ve had before, but very well done nevertheless...

Bottle. Pours an amber red with foamy white head. Cool cascade on the pour. Aroma is juicy tropical fruits and strong grassy hops. Flavor is caramel malts and clean fresh grains, balanced well with floral hops. Mouthfeel is clean and juicy. That’s a damn tasty beer.

Cask at Manhattan Cask Festival. Deep amber-red beer, very nutty and toasty aroma with a bit of light earthy hoppiness as well. Earthy with a kiss of Goldings aroma. Flavour is well-balanced, earthy and lightly spicy with a bit of soft nutty character over a sweet light maltiness. Good balanced and a nice session beer.

Pour is slightly hazed reddish amber with a sticky and thin tan head...smell is lightly sweet and toasty...taste is lightly fruity at first and I swear that I tasted pineapple...also cookie dough...lightly soapy bitterness in the grainy finish...
