Commercial Description:
Ireland's first and last Ard Ri (high king) of the whole Gaelic race, Brian Boru was born in Munster Ireland around 940. His mother was killed by Vikings when he was a child. He spent his life uniting the Irish tribes to become the first king of Ireland, only to be killed at Clontarf on Good Friday, 1014 putting down a rebellion by the King of the province of Leinster. Brian Boru Irish Brand Red Ale is a very rich caramelly ale with toffee, citrus, and pineapple aroma. Brian Boru is brewed with several malts and Amarillo hops. Slainte!

I am usually not a huge fan of Irish Ales, but not too many are as heavy hopped as this. From a bomber, pours a translucent ruby/brown with a very thin off white head. Aroma is of caramel malt and citrus hops. Well balanced with the citrus hops taking control though (which I am a fan of). Very little carbonation. Nice Irish ale, I hadn’t had this beer in a long time...that was a mistake.

One day I’m going to make the trek to Munster, sit at the bar at Three Floyds, and say nothing but good things about this brewery. I do that now, but I’m in my house. This beer takes a style I almost never pay attention to and turns into a red, hoppy, musty fantastic beer.

pours a dark caramel color with a one finger fluffy light tan head. aroma is caramel malt and nice pine, grapefruit, and orange hops. has a medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is a balanced but pretty strong caramel malt and pine and orange hops. has a small dry hop aftertaste and is a pretty fine Irish red.

I really, really liked this. Alot. Part of it is that FFF can do not wrong in my mind, but this was great along all lines. Sharp and roasted, this is like Fat Tire on steriods. It wasnt even overpiced. I will definetly get this again before too long, at that level of alcohol I could see this being available in sixers year round, but it wouldnt be worth it if the quality changed any.

Very nice aroma, dark amber/red color, thin head. Has a soft, carmel hoppy taste. Extremely drinkable. Another very good beer from Three Floyds.

Swee toffee, hoppy malt scent, almost like a hoppy stout. Deep dark thick amber color. Very nice mouth feel, clean and refreshing. Watery caramel, hops, with a touch of citrus. Also grapefruit and not very bitter in the taste or finish which is nice. Easy to drink and not as complex or harsh as some of their other beers which is a nice change of pace for them. A very nice ale.

[Rated 5.7.08] Pours clear red/amber with a medium thick sudsy head. Crazy aroma of maple bacon and pineapple. Mmmm this might be my favorite Three Floyds yet. Floyds has really great hop combinations but this is pretty fantastic the way the malts are played off of them. Really rich slightly toasted malts. Flavors of maple and slightly burnt brown sugar. It goes about as far sugary as it can without being sticky. Really soft easy drinking yet very full mouthful too. Some woodiness in the finish. I love beers that can be really balanced and at the same time pack in as much flavor as possible (even if they are straight forward). 9.4.9.5.17 [Rerate fresh 09 bottle 3.12.09] Pours a magnificent rich glowing almost clear red with a frothy white head. Aroma of fresh dirty earthy green oily hops, not so much the pineapple malty brown sugar aroma as before which is a shame as I really loved that. The flavor although indicates a bit of that. Not quite as rich and malty as I remember. Earthy green oily hops over a sugary malt base without so much toffee/caramel character as should be. Medium bodied with a lighter mouthful and lots of larger carbonation. 8.4.6.3.13
