It has a medium light brown/yellowish head that is dense and foamy. The aroma is malty with some aged fruit (candied citrus/orange) and alcohol wafting out as well. The flavor is rich and malty with lots of caramel flavor. It has a nice sweetness without being too sweet. There is also a smooth citrus/orange bitterness toward the end - just enough to keep the sweetness of the caramel and slightly roasted malt in check. This beer is medium to full bodied and smooth, almost creamy in a way. I think this bottle might of had some age on it as the hops seemed subdued and the carbonation level was quite low as well. Regardless, this is another nice offering from Three Floyds!

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 14, 2006 Pours a nice deep amber...transparent with a creamy light tan head. A good shot of caramel malt with some faint earthy hops and a bit of toffee. Tons of caramel malt in the flavor along with some toffee and some more earthy hops to even out the sweetness. Pretty rich over the tounge...sweet through middle giving way to a slight bitterness that finishes off bitter/clean. Pretty solid stuff, but not something I would buy by the case. nhorween (640), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Nov 12, 2006 Bottle, thanks sersdf. Light caramel color, clear, with a beige head. Aroma is a bit thin, hops mostly, malt, vanilla, cirtrus, nice, but very understated. Flavor is ok, vanilla, oak, pine, hops, light sugar, creamy toffee character. Bad mouthfeel, thin, watery, and undercarbonated. My least favorite 3 floyds so far, but still, much better than your average beer. SoLan (1427), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 8, 2006 Very dark ruby topped by a dense, creamy, tan head. Huge hops in the nose- soap and pine resin. Flavor adds lightly toasted caramel, earth, and a subtle citrus finish. Smooth, medium/full body. Too much hops for this brew. smoosh (523), New Albany, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 14, 2006 Bottle - big sweet malty nose with what I believe are grassy hops. A beautiful red body with a beige head - about 2 fingers from 3 Floyds. Kind of an odd flavor. A little fruity, a little hot malt, but kind of seems to die before the finish. Nice palate. A good beer, but I can’t imagine that it is the "best Irish ale" as it rates here. A little FFF bias, maybe? JB175 (1664), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2006 Deep red pour with light head. Aroma is of dark apple, malt & some hop bitterness present in the nose. Taste is heavy malt, dark fruit & toffee upfront. A bit too "red" for my liking - anything "Red" seems a bit like medicine to me. Very pleasant hop bitterness that finishes nicely. 3Fs delivers another good one. dberger624 (1028), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA
