Commercial Description:
Ireland's first and last Ard Ri (high king) of the whole Gaelic race, Brian Boru was born in Munster Ireland around 940. His mother was killed by Vikings when he was a child. He spent his life uniting the Irish tribes to become the first king of Ireland, only to be killed at Clontarf on Good Friday, 1014 putting down a rebellion by the King of the province of Leinster. Brian Boru Irish Brand Red Ale is a very rich caramelly ale with toffee, citrus, and pineapple aroma. Brian Boru is brewed with several malts and Amarillo hops. Slainte!

bomber. Aroma: medium-sweet malt with some toast and caramel. Very nice hop aroma with some pine and floral notes. Perhaps a touch of grapefruit, too. Appearance: Deep red in color and clear. Light beige head was full and rocky with great retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Toasted malt with some light breadiness. Toffee, pine and resin, perfumey floral and grapefruit. Medium bitterness is full of more of the floral/pine flavors. Nice clean finish. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: Good, easy drinking beer. Lots of great malt flavor with some equally great hop flavors to balance it out.

22oz bottle (thanks to black95tt) poured a hazed medium red color with a small quickly diminishing head. The aroma had a surprisingly nice floral hop nose along with some good toffee notes and caramel malts. The taste was very smooth with a small hop bite and a nice malt richness that finished fairly dry. Still have yet to have any bad beers from 3F.

Bottle. Sweet aroma, malty and caramelly, with a touch of sugary fruit. Light hops and even pineapple. Ruby red pour with a light brown and lacing head. Medium amount of visible carbonation. Taste is crisp, light fruitiness, caramel, toffee. Dryish middle, very hoppy without being very bitter, bypasses grit for coating resin. Medium body with a dry end. Slightly woody. I think comparison can be made with a non-bitter Alt, or perhaps a fruitier pale ale, but this doesn’t seem "Irish" enough to me. Very enjoyable sessionish beer, though.

Poured a murky copper red with a very whispy off white head. Smells great, hoppy, fruity, malty. Very inviting aroma. Initial flavor is malty and surprisingly fruity. The caramel and toasted malt come in at the end. The malty flavor is more complex than other beers. Thick and syrupy in the throat, not at all acidic. Very nice.

This is my first FFF, so I have high expectations. Pours a dark red/brown with pretty much no head. It really looks good except I like a nice fluffy head, which this doesnt have. Clean, fruity, citrus, floral, and caramel aroma. Flavors are fruit (oranges among others), caramel, sweet malt, and a little bit of hops. Very easy to drink and tasty, but not strong or complex. Not bad, but I am looking forward to other FFF brews more.

Bright brownish red with a clean, clear body. Small dense cap of dark ivory foam. Splatchy cob webby lacing is spread about the glass. Rounded, clean, and quite hoppy on the nose. No real surprise from 3F. Softly orange with a wafty pine scent intermingling well with just a touch of floral resins and pollen. Taste is quick, clean, and rounded with a centered toasted bread dough tone and a slightly sticky toffee surrounded by a nice firm display of dully citric oily hoppyness. Kinda orangey, semi oily to nearly full, slippery in bitterness with a rounded off leafy pineyness. Soft, supple, and a good amount of flavor profile. A nice balance f both malt and hops makes this a nice treat. Feel is clean, quite clean in fact, with a smooth oily slide to its nature thats very inviting and a very soft finish of lightly toasted malt sweetness and an orangey oilyness. Long lofty pine oil notes the finish late. A solid drinkin’ brew. Its cleanness is respectful to its balance as it has a wonderfully crafted oily tone to it that makes for solid enjoyment.

Bottle. Hazt red, thin head. Strong caramel malt and big hop aroma. Very sweet and slightly astringent in flavor. A bit watery. A little tart. Low bitterness and little aftertaste. Not clean enough to be simple. Not complex enough to be great. An American Irish Ale to be sure.

Pours a hazy red brown with a dense light tan head, dwindling gradually. The nose is big, rich and round. Malty goodness ranging from lightly sweet to caramel and even a bit toasty without being cloying in the least balanced by a lovely tropical fruit sort of hoppiness. Really pleasant mouthfeel as well, rich and full and creamy, though not particularly thick and heavy. And the best part is the taste still! The flavors are big and bold and well rounded, just as the aroma would indicate. Sweet caramel malt and a big of toastiness blends in with the big, though not annoying, hops. There’s almost a chocolatey element towards the end of this one. The lingering aftertaste is a pineapple/guava sort of hops and dry toasty hops. And to think, this was only 3 bucks, a bomber... I have to run back to the store and buy them out! Rerate Feb 28, 2007. After much consideration, I had to knock the overall and flavor down one each. Perhaps I’ve had too much of this lately since I stocked up on 3 dollar bottles, or perhaps I had a few too many the first time I rated this. In any event, still a lovely session beer, and very flavorful.
