Commercial Description:
Ireland's first and last Ard Ri (high king) of the whole Gaelic race, Brian Boru was born in Munster Ireland around 940. His mother was killed by Vikings when he was a child. He spent his life uniting the Irish tribes to become the first king of Ireland, only to be killed at Clontarf on Good Friday, 1014 putting down a rebellion by the King of the province of Leinster. Brian Boru Irish Brand Red Ale is a very rich caramelly ale with toffee, citrus, and pineapple aroma. Brian Boru is brewed with several malts and Amarillo hops. Slainte!

A deep hazy brown/red color with a thin but dense tan colored head. The aroma is sweet and hoppy but also has cinnamon, light fruits- maybe pineapple/citrus, vanilla and malt. Delicious taste to go along with the aroma- it tastes rich and creamy with caramel and toffee, vanilla, spice, light citrus, nuts and well balanced hops and malt. The palate is thick but very smooth. Light toasted nuts linger. I enjoyed all aspects of this beer and highly recommend it!

Bomber, courtesy BeachBum25--thanks, Jim! Huge deep ruddy brown body with a nice thick moussy tannish head. Intense caramel bursts on the nose--cloying and almost overwhelming throuhout the drink. If the caramel had been more under control this would have been borderline spectacular. Lots of thick toffee, nuts, light roast and some breadiness on the palate. Great medium body with medium carb and a lightly bitter finish. Nice stuff but just too sweet for big rounds--considering it’s under 6%, it pains me to say this would be just too much of a beer to order by the pitcher.

smells of malty prunes and licorice, so sweet it’s almost decaying. The appearance is a nice, dark brown with reddish overtones. Taste is all malt, slight rotting fruit flavors. Very nice mouthfeel, but too many raisiny tones for my liking.

bottle. Ah, I love Three Floyds attitude. I can see by the label that this is going to be an Irish red ale. I’ve had enough of their offerings to know that this probably won’t be the product of textbook brewing. I poured the bomber into a tall mug which reveals a quite cloudy amber body, and a firm, large white head. So, I take a whiff. Only because it’s 3 Floyds am I not surprised to find large amounts of hops. The prospect of an Irish ale overly hopped American style really amuses me, then I start to notice how awesome the aroma really is. It’s got plenty of sweet lemon, pine, some pineapple, and dinner rolls in the aroma. Great boquet on this stuff. The flavor is the slightest let down, but really just because this beer smells so damn good. More biscuits come out it in the flavor and usher a hint of burned caramel along. The finish brings out a bit of bark and finishes citrusy sweet. Good citrus notes all around, really, very zesty. The hops are less noticed in the mouth than the nose, (but not subtle) giving focus to the group of malts. I find Irish-style Ales to be usually boring but easy to session drink any time. Brian Boru has an amazing drinkability and has its own quirky, unique take on the style. It’s not normal.

Bottle. Pours reddish brown with almost no head. Spicy and slightly sharp. Some hoppyness and some sweetness. Slightly dry finish and has a slightly thin palete.

Bottle. Redish colour with a small beige head. Light fruity, light hoppy aroma and a sweet caramel malty, fruity, light hoppy taste, a bit thin taste. Medium body with a light sweet, light dry finish.

Clear amber color from a 1 pint bottle. As with other Three Floyds it is a bit over the top. A lot going on for an Irish Ale. The Carmel, citrus, sweet and hopped up blend well and suprising result in a rather smooth finish.

Brown pour with a small tan head. Aroma is nutty. Taste is what I’d expect of an Irish ale. Nutty with just a hint of fruit in the finish. I love the way this brewery uses their hops.
