Who do the Broodoo voodoo brew? That would be the lofty brewers of Three Floyds Brewing based in Munster, Indiana. Knowing I will (hopefully) get to visit them a few months from now induces moments of lucid nirvana, but in the meantime I get to savor their Broodoo Harvest Ale. A winter seasonal, she seeks to encapsulate the essence of the season in her bottled depths which, upon release, will equally induce an escape to simpler times where nature lies untouched and the air is a-stir with a thousand different tastes and aromas. That may sound like the delusional ramblings of an unrealistic romantic, but there is truth to being able to capture a moment in time within the present, usually during a tactile experience. Savoring a good beer is an experience of all the senses, realistic and romantic, which is why some beers, such as the Broodoo, are more than just a fermented beverage.

My Broodoo rustled and whispered in the breeze as she settled into a delicate hazy gold with hints of brown earth while a free-floating cloud of foam lazes about. Random bubbles stick to the sides of my glass while a fresh, wet aroma wafts my way. Green pine needles wet with dew sparkle in the scattered sunlight while dry leaves, moist earth with pollen and flowers transport me to a lush glade as a mountain looms over the horizon. Washing down over her mountainous slope are lavender soap, lemongrass, and more fresh pine needles. Our olfactory senses are many times more powerful than our sense of taste, if not more, but that fact cannot stop me from wanting to capture just a little bit the essence in her body. My first sip of Broodoo is clean and a little thin, though not watery in the least. A smooth current of honey and bar syrup flows under a field of lemongrass, hay and straw while flowers bloom and lavender fills the air. The delicate honey sweetness helps to bring out more of her lemongrass while the crisp crunch of fresh pine needles adds to her crisp finish. A drying bitterness starts to settle on top of my tongue while each subsequent moment together is a blissful repeat of honey, flowers, lavender (soap), hay, dry grass, and pine trees.

Bomber poured a clear golden amber with a small lingering amber head. Aromas of biscuit, pine, grapefruit and apricot. Palate was light bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of biscuit, pine, citrus and light apricot with a smooth lingering bitter finish.

This 22 oz bottle came to me via a trade with Erik in Indiana. Luck me. This poured a cloudy orange color with a white head and very robust lacing rings. Nose mostly of hops, with floral, citrus, and tropical fruit. Very smooth and clean palate that feels good in the mouth. Flavor is one of those miracles of sweetness and bitterness, and the bitterness continues all the way to the finish which makes this superb beer good to the very last drop.

Reminds a lot of the Sierra Nevada Southern Harvest, poured hazy orange with a white head, smelled of very wet hops with citrus and sweet orange. Not as hoppy as one would expect, but a very solid IPA

Bottle. Poured an orangish color with a nice white head. Aroma is strong with citrusy hops. Notes of malts, grass, and citrus stand out. On the pallet it is rather refreshing. It has a harsh bitter bite in the finish. I enjoyed this beer, but was slightly disappointed in comparrison with the Dreadnaught.
