Three Floyds Calumet Queen

Tap. Caramel and barley malt aroma. Clear orange amber color with moderate head. Slightly sweet malt flavor with moderate hops present throughout. Hops flavor much more up front than is typical for the style but gives this one more body and works well. Another great 3F brew.

On tap at 3 Floyds. Pours clear golden with a quickly fading white head. Fresh grassy noble hop nose. Flavor has notes of pale malt, light caramel, zesty lemon and grassy hops. Medium bodied with a smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Pretty hoppy for a kolsch. Pretty solid stuff.

Pours a light amber hue with a quickly fading white head. Nose is light caramel malt and nuts with some citrus highlights. The flavor is a generic caramel with a light hint of lemon. I, too foung some unfortunate metallic qualities, but just barely. Very run of the mill, but not quite as difficult to drink as buddy, Frankenkitty, found it to be.

Mid-amber bodied with a skinny, white head that was quickly a wet halo. Confusing aroma of strong metallic notes over nutty lemon. Flavor finds a floral base with possible diacetyl problems and a metallic finish. Sharp mouthfeel finishes dry. Really not very good... a challenge to drink.

NOT A TRADITIONAL 3FFF BEER .. SOME HAVE TO START SOMEWHERE AND THIS WAS ONE OF THEM.HAD IT BACK I N HAMMOND DAYS AND IT WAS A TYPICAL LOCAL TYPE BEER.BUT IT PAID OFF A BIG WAY CHHEERS TO THE GUYS ANd CONGRATS.

Draft, and 3F’s, 8/14/06 This beer is back after two years; finally a chance to revisit it. Nice pale ale-ish color, with a touch of cloudiness under an inch-thick head that stays pretty frothy. Smell is more like a wit. Taste is much less grainy than before, much more malty. Nicely rides that line between ale and lager. In the middle of the glass, there’s a fine north German hop bitterness clinging to the back of the mouth. Then a hint of ale fruitiness that again reminds me of something Belgian. Finish is almost syrupy. Yes, much better than before.

Original rating 7/14/04, rated 2.3. Draft, poured by Nic Floyd. Can this be? A 3F that’s not that great??! Well, maybe the tap was off because I tasted nothing like the descriptions here. I got a big off-flaver of raw grain. Mild citrus hop could not make up for it. I will have to re-sample sometime.

Clear yellow beer with a little white head. Aroma was faint and soapy smelling. The flavor was dominated by fruit and a soft soap flavor. After a few tastes I really started to enjoy it.

From the tap at Three Floyds, poured by Nick Floyd. Pale yellow appearance did not capture your attention. Aroma was weak, also. Mild hops, fruit, but very faint. Thin bodied. Not bad for the style but not a style I particularly like. Flavor was thin and watery.
