Pours a pure black body with a medium swirling beige head that goes down quickly to nothing almost. The aroma is full of so much; molasses, berries, coffee, chocolate. Basically this is what Brussels would smell like if the whole city was burning. The flavor was simply amazing; tons of fruit, especially berries initially, chocolates, milk, brown sugar and roasted flavors cover everything. A smooth and dry finish of chocolates and coffee. One of the best mouthfeels ever; smooth and creamy and so very full. I was very surprised by how smooth this was, so drinkable I could drink this at six AM. Let me hope I do someday. Amazing. nimbleprop (936), SouthWest, Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Scored two 22oz bottles of this rarity thanks to a trade with TPaliga. Thanks Tim! Popped this 2008 bottle at an imperial stout tasting I held and everyone attending was pumped to sample this. Looks dangerous, completely opaque black, thick and oily with a creamy tan head. Aroma of whiskey, wood, and cane sugar with just the slightest touch of citrus. Flavors of raisins, molasses, toast, maple, salty soy, dark cocoa and perhaps some beets. Really smooth on the tongue and thick and a little syrupy down the throat. Definitely worth the hype. Zbong (38), Lansing, Michigan, USA

This stuff is ridiculous, thickest blackest brew I have come across, delightful aromas of coffee, chocolate, molasses, and "dark fruits". The taste is similar to the smell, but with pleasant hop presence. Mouthfeel is thick thick thick. Amazing brew that lives up to the hype. luckymortal (16), USA

it lives up.
If what you’re expecting is the most intense RIS you could imagine.
If you get one, give it a nice aggressive pour or you’ll miss out on one of the most beautiful shows you’ll ever see in a glass. The way the had burrows down into the beer is the most amazing trick I’ve ever seen a beer do, and it lasted a good 2 minutes.
Yeah, you smell that? Tons of dark fruits, coffee, vanilla chocolate, the aroma of this beer is as complex as an Belgian monk-brew I’ve ever had. And the taste matches completely.
No, you’re not going to want to pound back a couple of six packs of this shit. that’s not what it’s about, despite what the 3rd-grader (yeah, I love it) bottle art might suggest. This is a sipper. The head lasted forever and the flavor just kept developing. God, I’m looking forward to my other bottles. lassem (310), Copenhagen, Denmark

Bottle 75 cl. Silver waxed - 2007 version
Pours all black with a huge dark and fluffy brown head - perfect. Aroma - Dark chockolate, brown sugar, orange and alcohol.
The palate is penetratingly, heavy and very smooth and oily.
The taste is sweet sweet sweet and rather hoppy, vinoes and salty. I taste Coffee italian style, laquirice, alcohol, ashes burnes nuts and tobacco together with dryed fruits like raisins and plums.
The finish is very sweet and bitter - a bit like an Underberg exept the spirit.
Beware: It leaves you some sticky lips.
Too me this one is a bit too much. It is too sweet and I would never be able too drink much more than a glass of this black monster....even though I normally love heavy imperial stouts....
