Ungstrup (11354), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 2, 2004 The aroma is powerful of coffee, chocolate, wood, and alcohol. The color is pitch-black and it has a brown head though disappearing. The flavor is very sweet with complex notes of malt (especially roasted), coffee, and bitter chocolate. It ends on a rather good bitterness -both from the malt and the hops. A very good beer. Thanks to Jeppe (Bierkönig) for sharing this very special beer with me. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 17, 2003 Bottled from growler, thanks hopsrus!!
Thick like oil, black as coal. No head, of course. Chocolate and fruit aroma. Raisiny huge maltiness, you nearly need a knife to cut it. Soft mouthfeel and a syrupy sweetness. Extremely complex. Rich, wonderfully flavourful and with the typical 3 Floyds softness, but on the sweet side for me. Papsoe (10285), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 23, 2005 Updated: Sep 9, 2007(Bottle 65 cl) Black, almost opaque with a dark brown head. Pronounced roasted malt and a distinct alcohol. Lovely full-bodied, extremely raisiny - all sorts of dried fruit and chocolate before a hot and alcoholic finish. Delicious indeed. 170705 and 070907 Oakes (6973), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Jul 5, 2003 Updated: Aug 1, 2003Okay - ahem, since a few folks out there are not quite in tune with my deadpan style of humour, I shall submit a very sober-minded review of the Dark Lord, removing all hint of sarcasm from my notes. Black w/ dark brown head. Aroma of bitter chocolate, wood, light coffee, peach and wonderfully extracted malts. Rich palate - huge malts bludgeon the tongue with pleasure. Long, dry, chewy, toffeeish. Wonderful stuff this is. For once, and American hype-brew that is fully worthy of the attention slathered upon it. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Sep 9, 2007 Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 13. Huge thanks to badgerben for trading and brewfiend for shipping, I owe you one Ben, this came out as the best brew of the night! 2005 vintage, orange wax. Pours dark brown to black with a lacing brown head. Slight alcohol burning in my eyes, roasted malty, slight smoked, minor toffee note flavour is caramel, roasted malt toffee sweet, quite nice. Dry to bitter finish with a distinct malt flavour beneath. 8-4-8-4-17
Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 14. 2007 bottle. Pours deep brown with red hue and no head. Slight eye burning alcohol, dried malty aroma. Thick mouthfeel, low carbonation. Coffee, chocolate and roasted malt in a quite thick fluid blend. Very intense without being overdone in anyway. Quite nice. 7-4-9-4-16
