2007 release on tap at Dark Lord Day 2008. I was really looking forward to trying this beer! I was beginning to doubt that this could live up to its hype. The Dark Lord proved me wrong... I received this in a 6 ounce cup that was half filled with a completely opaque black beer with a beautiful brown head that left wonderful swirls in the top of the beer that lasted throughout the duration. The aroma was the most complex that I have ever experienced... a wonderful mix of chocolate, vanilla, nuts, bourbon, coffee, burnt wood, dried fruit, and suggary malts. I literally stood there smelling this for a good five minutes. Then I took the first sip... I was hit with an excellent mix of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, burnt wood, and some alcohol in the finish. It also has a very heavy mouthfeel and is very "thick". It was even able to cling to the side of a plastic cup! This beer definitely looks intimidating but somehow is very easy to drink. I cannot wait to open one of my 2008 bottles! This one definitely lives up to its hype!
2008 bottle shared with nimrod and Illini08. I was a bit scared of this one because the top broke off of the bottle when I was opening it. However, I was definitely not disappointed. Poured a completely opaque black color with absolutely no head. After warming for a bit, I could smell a lot of bourbon, wood chips, dried fruits, vanilla, chocolate and coffee. This beer is by far the most complex I have encountered when it comes to aromas. The taste is absolutely incredible with a LOT of bitter chocolate and dried fruits with hints of vanilla and bourbon and coffee. The viscosity of this beer really boggles my mind. It clings to the side of the glass. Illini08 poured the beer and left a bit of sediment in the bottom. We tried drinking that after the initial brew, but was unable to because of its bitterness. I cannot wait to open another bottle in a year or two! This stuff is really enjoyable!

Aug 20, 2008 I hope that what im drinking wasn’t ruined in transit to me it being summer and all. It pours black with a brown burnt sugar carmel colored head. aroma is alcohol, malt, with a heavy carmel scent. it tastes of bitter chocolate toasty malt and burnt caramel. this beer is punishing me at the moment. for the first time ever I think I can say that my stomach is in pain, but my mouth is in love. at first I thought that i coudn’t handle this beer but its growing on me. I still in my honest opinion enjoy stone’s imperial stout a little more because its something i can drink easily. Please take into note that it is august and this beer was shipped via ups

Aug 20, 2008 At Vero, kisses to whoever shared it! Thick, viscous pour of pure blackness. Really intense nose packed with coffee and chocolate purity. Smooth, smooth, incredible. Raisins dancing. Complex, gorgeous, and viscous. A superlative brew, fully deserving of the hype.

Had the 2008 Dark lord and figured it would make a good 100’s rating. The beer poured very thick and looked much like motor oil does that has not been changed for a long time. There was a small off white head. The aroma was very strong, a little fruity and sweet. There was also a subtle note of coffee. The flavor was a little sweet for my taste but was well balanced between dark fruits chocolate and coffee. This is one fine beer. Cheers!

Aug 18, 2008 I didn’t think this stuff could possibly live up to its hype, but its one fucking good beer. Thick motor oil like pour. Thickest beer I’ve ever had. It left a residue on my glass. Dark tan head. Creamy vanilla and chocolate aroma, with raisins and chocolate. Intense sweetness, almost overwhelming, with a very creamy, fruity taste. Chocolaty with molasses. Very oaky with bourbon. Like drinking a glass of port. Fantastic, I docked it a point for being a bit too sweet.

Aug 17, 2008 Big thanks to growler for sharing a bottle of the 2007 vintage. Pours deep black with small brown head. Aromas of chocolate, soy sauce and burnt malts. Flavors are similar to the aromas. This is not as sweet as I was expecting and it is also much smoother. Full body with minimal carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel.
