Pour is murky brown cordovan with a nice 2 inch tan head. Decent lacing as the beer goes down. Aroma is big resin hops, bigger caramel malt and biggest prune fruit and licorice. Just a huge nose, with three pretty strong elements more or less battling it out. The taste is the resin earthy hops, along with big caramel sweetness, along with the dark fruit and licorice. On top of this was a woody, boozy Bourbon taste that fortunately was not present in the nose. Palate is low carbonation, long woody finish, and evident alcohol warmth. May be this one needs some time to come together, but when I tasted it, it was an overpowering booze fest. Thanks for sending this one to me Tom, I was glad I tried it. neepsntatties (330), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 12, 2009 Got to try a bottle of this courtesy of "hannont". Colour... dark brown with no discernible head. Nose... Fairly simple hops and malt. Palate... fairly sweet and malty. Hops are present but do not make much of an impression. OK stuff, overall, but I expect more form these folks! Pawola22 (752), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jul 11, 2009 22oz bottle purchased at DLD ’09. Pours a deep brown, magonany tinted body with a thin, light tan head that dissipates quickly and leaves a light lacing around the edges. Aroma definitely opens up more as this warms. Deeper caramels, a light wood, some roasted malts and toffees, fermented dark fruits, and a slightly sharp woody pine hop. Flavor is full, but the wood doesn’t quite taste right. It remains underlying and gives off a stale taste while never really mixing with the other flavors well. There are some nuts, toffees, deep caramel, a light roast, yeasty dark unripened fruits, chocolate covered peanuts, leafy hops, and a bit of a cheap whiskey taste. Finishes with that stale wood taste and lingering toffee, cheap booze, nuts, and a light chocolate. Palate is light bodied, dry, and very short. Overall, this is just a mess. There’s so much going on, but it never comes together. Stale and cheap tasting wood although I loved DFH’s Palo Santo Marron. Eh, disappointing brew from two of my favorites. Tastes fruity and spicy with an earthy finish. I was expecting more out of a collaboration like this. JJClark (545), Roscoe, Illinois, USA

4/25/2009: 3F Popskull is very dark brown, nearly opaque in the glass, and has an ivory-colored head. It is smooth and malty with plenty of caramel. It has an average body and mouthfell. Overall it is good, but not great. I would probably can this an Imperial Brown Ale.
Draught at Dark Lord Day 2009. Total Score: 3.5

8/01/2009: Popskull... Aroma: Syrupy brown ale, resiny wood. Appearance: Cola brown, beige crown. Flavor: Sugary sweet molasses, lightly citrusy, sweeter than I remember. Palate: Medium, slightly syrupy. Overall: Way too sweet without enough complexity or depth. DFH Palo Santo Marron is much, much better.
