| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | May 25, 2009 Ugly brown. Kind of muddy. Toffee nose isn’t very appetizing. Toffee body with lots of wood. It’s a somewhat lame strong beer with no discernable character other than the palo santo and I don’t find that the underlying structure is either attractive on its own or in combination with the wood. bu11zeye (5621), Frisco, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 11, 2009 Interesting. A bunch of folk had this at the Day of the Living Ales (probably the Night, too) at Goose Island, Wrigleyville, in Chicago on the 7th of this month, and no one has rated it yet. (To quote Mr. Cheney, "I had other priorities.") Looks like I’ll be first. It had kind of a murky pour, headless with a chestnut/mahogany body. The aroma had a woody malt smell with dusty chocolate, and orchard fruit. That pretty well sums up the flavor, except that a low alcohol burn is introduced at the midpoint and lasts into the finish. I’m not sure what FFF/DFH are going for, but it’s an interesting drink. I’ll rerate after I pick some up and try some more on DLD.
