Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Bottled sample, thanks to Andersand. Hazy golden, nice head. Very fresh citrus hoppy aroma with tropical fruits, apricot, grapefruit and other nice things. Flavour is about the same with lots of tropical fruits, some light caramel sweetness and big bitterness. Refreshing, filling, fullbodied mouthfeel. A treat! But this was just a sample, would have been nice to taste a whole bottle.

Bomber, drank in celebration of my second to last colleagiate golf tournament! Pours clear orange with a small creamy head. Aroma has pine sol, flowers, and soapy hops. Flavor is spicy-sharp, initially, something I wasn’t expecting. Palate is medium, not overly chewy or dry. Starts with ripe orange, citrus, and lemonade. Mid-palate rounds with caramel and malt sweetness while maintaining fruit profile. Finish gains in spiciness again almost like a rye-IPA, with some soap and alcohol to boot. Aftertaste is warming. Overall, this is a fabulous, powerful DIPA. I was not expecting the sharp hops and evident alcohol, but who said FFF was going for “balance” here?

Bottle. Hazy golden body with a medium creamy white head. The aroma is very fruity. I catch banana, peach, pine and citrus. Sweet malty flavour with lots of fresh fruit like banana and peach. Ends up piney and fruity. Medium bodied. Overall its very well crafted and is very balanced.

Pours with a luscious copper-orange color with a thick head. An amazing aromatic hop bouquet. A huge floral sticky-lips hop flavor of citrus and pine, a little alcohol burn with a sweet malty finish. Great lacing. This is easily one of my all-time favorites, and perhaps my perfect beer.

Let’s see what we have here. Nice strong citrus and pine upfront on the nose. Very balanced though I must say. I have to say I like this a tad more then Pliny, such a close call though. It has a bit more pine, hops and body with the Dreadnaught. Beyond wonderful, sweet hop aftertaste. Get this one if you can!

Thanks to bulldog04 for this bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light amber orange with a medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus hops, caramel, and honey. Taste is the same, but not quite as smooth as I would have hoped for, but overall a great brew. Aftertaste is very pleasant, but this beer just doesn’t live up to the hype.
