j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Mar 29, 2009 Bottle, with a big thank you to StFun for sending me this one. Pours a clear brownish amber with a medium sized white head that actually sticks around for a while. Piles of sweet honeyed citrus hops hit the nose just on popping the bottle cap. The sweet pine and citrus is backed up with hints of honey and malt. Medium to thick body with a gentle sweetness up front into a nice malty backbone. Finishes still a little sweet, but not cloying, with a very slowly developing and long lasting grapefruit bitterness. Remarkably tasty. Nothing on it that says “Wow this is the best thing ever”, but lots of stuff that is just downright solid and hard to disagree with. Shame FFF stopped distributing to NY. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Mar 29, 2009 courtesy of the hink, aged 3 years, how odd, but still amazing! ... hops have held up well, and the kick is still there, the malt has intensified and has given this beer a great rounded sweetness .. aged: wonderful, fresh: we will see... tpd975 (95), Riverview, Florida, USA Mar 29, 2009 A: Copper Orange with a small head, some tiny bubbles and sticky lacing.
S: A true hop bomb. Pine and Citrus waft from the glass in a big way.
T: Initial sweetness followed by an explosion of the pine and grapefruit of the hops. You can taste the alcohol in this one. This is a big beer, aggressive and in your face.
M: Very thick moutfeel, you can chew on this bad boy.
D: I will stop at one here. It is a very straightforward example of a DIPA, but drinking more than one would put you down for the count soccer290 (135), Highland Park, Illinois, USA Mar 27, 2009 22 oz bottle. Ah, the final beer in my rating beer quest, and possibly my favorite of them all. Pours a hazy golden color with almost no head (white and dies quickly). Smells of so many things: hops (tons of them), malt, lots of mango, and some citrus. The only thing I’ve had so far that rivals this in smell is Bells Hopslam, though it’s close. Tastes of mango, some citrus, lighter hops than I was expecting, and a malt aftertaste. Goes down quite smoothly (as long as you can stand I-IPA’s). Really a very good beer, one of my favorites, and it would be a regular if it weren’t so difficult to find combined with the price. Makes me want to try this Russian River that is supposedly better than Dreadnaught. Slayer85 (582), Firenze, Italy Mar 25, 2009 Bottle. A lightly hazy medium amber beer with a medium sized, quite lasting and lacing white head. The aroma has a quite good maltiness and a immense hoppiness with notes of grapefruit, oranges, tropical fruit, caramel and alcohol. The flavour is highly sweet with more malt presence than other beers in this style and very fruity, sugary, and finally balanced, enough complex and very light stickiness. Medium to full body, lively carbonation, quite long finish with medium bitterness and not much more, so less than in a normal IIPA. First experience with this brewery is very good, I want more, much more. maxa9 (20), , Washington, USA Mar 20, 2009 22 oz. bomber from Archer Liquors. Snifter. Outstanding - well worth the price. Pours orange. Thick head. Good lacing. Aromas are strong and inviting. Citrus. Peach. More Citrus. Alcohol. Flavors are extremely well-balanced. This beer disables your palate in a more subtle fashion than Ruination or Pliny/Younger. Pleased that I still have five more to enjoy! Narnad (682), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA Mar 20, 2009 Pours a orange, golden color and is topped with a thick off white head with quite a bit of staying power. Aroma is a nice mixture of orange citrus with a bit more of mango and then some pretty bitter floral and spruce notes mixed in. Flavor starts off somewhat sweet with some citrus flavors in there as well but the overall floral and spruce bitterness carries through the hole tasting and takes hold as the main contributor to the flavor on the last half of the tasting along with the light caramel malt flavors. Body of the beer is nice and holds the flavors perfectly while all the while masking the alcohol presence very well. Overall this beer presents a sound aromatic and a highly flavorful beer well worth a try, albeit a bit pricey.
