| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Nov 21, 2008 As soon as the beer is poured, aromas of citrus and piney hops come out and flood your senses. The smell reminds me of a walk through a pine stand on a rainy spring day. Grapefruit and orange come forward on the nose as well. The taste is huge, first it hits you with hoppy grapefruit, with a nice dry finish. The beer is also balanced a bit with some nice malt flavors like a bit of chocolate and caramel. noncaloric (605), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2009The citric hops come at me as soon as I pop the cap. Sniffing is hardly even necessary. Pours a light hazy gold with a moderate white head. Taste is an essence of grapefruity hops. No off flavors or overbrewed warmth for the hops to cover up, this is just what a metric ton of American hops tastes like when it doesn’t have to compensate for anything. More DAPA than DIPA, if there were such a category. doublea (16), , California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 31, 2008 Got a 22oz bomber, thanks to a trade with pantanap. I’ve heard good things and was really looking forward to this!
Split with several beer buddies. Color is a cloudy orange/gold. Smells and tastes of citrus and heavy on the hops. Grapefruit and and Pineapple stand out in the well balanced taste. Smell and taste align for a extremely drinkable, fantastic beer.
Definitely in my top 5 DIPAs..Highly recommended! ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 30, 2008 This beer is hoppy. For those who have tried it, this is obviously an understatement. But even with all the hops it is balanced by the malt. When you think of imperial IPA, this is what should come to mind. The aroma is hops and alcohol, but neither so extreme as to overpower the flavor, which is somewhat more hoppy and less alcohol, with citrus and caramel. Just a fantastic beer that makes me proud to be from Indiana. FunkyBrewster (443), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Pours a very deep hazy orange gold color with a nice white head. Aroma is very sweet and fruity tangerine yet still pine with the hops. While it is a great aroma it is not all that different from many other IPA aroma’s I have had. Flavor is a very sweet balance of the fruit like tangerine and peach along with some great true malt sweetness from the caramel malts. Finishes bitter yet still pleasant as the hops seem to linger on the tongue for quite awhile. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very well balanced and a great example of how hops can compliment the complexity of flavors. craftbeerdesign (744), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 25, 2008 fresh bomber - from Archer Liquors. outstanding IIPA... this really is the ideal IIPA - so well balanced and viscously delicious. similar to Pliny The Elder, but takes that one extra step to near perfection. at almost 10%, Dreadnaught drinks dangerously smooth. Three Floyds has crafted a world class beer (which they are very good at). Dreadnaught pours a golden color with a 1/4’’’’ white head... wonderful pine and citrus hops flow through the aroma along with some peach notes. medium to full body over the palate with a very well balanced hop presence. quite smooth overall and soft on the sides. the citrus really shines throughout the mouth. well carbonated and a bit of spice on the tip. long full sticky bitter finish... one of the best beers, in my opinion. deserves all the accolades it receives.
