doublea (16), , California, USA Oct 31, 2008 Got a 22oz bomber, thanks to a trade with pantanap. I’ve heard good things and was really looking forward to this!
Split with several beer buddies. Color is a cloudy orange/gold. Smells and tastes of citrus and heavy on the hops. Grapefruit and and Pineapple stand out in the well balanced taste. Smell and taste align for a extremely drinkable, fantastic beer.
Definitely in my top 5 DIPAs..Highly recommended! ajwilliams (118), , Indiana, USA Oct 30, 2008 This beer is hoppy. For those who have tried it, this is obviously an understatement. But even with all the hops it is balanced by the malt. When you think of imperial IPA, this is what should come to mind. The aroma is hops and alcohol, but neither so extreme as to overpower the flavor, which is somewhat more hoppy and less alcohol, with citrus and caramel. Just a fantastic beer that makes me proud to be from Indiana. FunkyBrewster (437), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 28, 2008 Pours a very deep hazy orange gold color with a nice white head. Aroma is very sweet and fruity tangerine yet still pine with the hops. While it is a great aroma it is not all that different from many other IPA aroma’s I have had. Flavor is a very sweet balance of the fruit like tangerine and peach along with some great true malt sweetness from the caramel malts. Finishes bitter yet still pleasant as the hops seem to linger on the tongue for quite awhile. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very well balanced and a great example of how hops can compliment the complexity of flavors. craftbeerdesign (731), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA Oct 25, 2008 fresh bomber - from Archer Liquors. outstanding IIPA... this really is the ideal IIPA - so well balanced and viscously delicious. similar to Pliny The Elder, but takes that one extra step to near perfection. at almost 10%, Dreadnaught drinks dangerously smooth. Three Floyds has crafted a world class beer (which they are very good at). Dreadnaught pours a golden color with a 1/4’’’’ white head... wonderful pine and citrus hops flow through the aroma along with some peach notes. medium to full body over the palate with a very well balanced hop presence. quite smooth overall and soft on the sides. the citrus really shines throughout the mouth. well carbonated and a bit of spice on the tip. long full sticky bitter finish... one of the best beers, in my opinion. deserves all the accolades it receives. Wasatch (270), Layton, Utah, USA Oct 25, 2008 A - Pours a slightly cloudy dark golden color, nice carbonation, nice creamy tan head, lots of lacing afterwards.
S - Scents of sweet hops, slight spices, maybe a touch of caramel.
T - Awesome sweet hoppy flavor.
M - Medium body.
D - Very drinkable. Man this is an awesome DIPA, probably my best so far. Thanks goes out to ybnrml for the trade.
dutch23mp (160), Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA Oct 24, 2008 on the top of the IPA line strong in every category. The hops are there for the hop head yet not over done great balance. a hint taste of fruit just the proper touch. balance is what I would describe of this brew. well deserving of high marks. DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Oct 22, 2008 GABF 2008. a beer worthy of my 2000th rating! Deep red-orange, powerful hop aromas of perfumey conifer, grapefruit, and tropical fruits. Big chewy sweet malts, oily bitter complex hop character that you can drown in! This is such a big beer, but it is very drinkable and surprisingly does not overwhelm. Worthy of the hype in my opinion (unlike my opinion of their Gumball Head). Blaketj80 (78), Oklahoma, USA Oct 21, 2008 An intense beer with piney nose and flavor. Definately has a lot going on with bitter finish and aftertaste. Hop profile could be a bit more rounded. 9.5 is nowhere to be found in this hopstorm.
