This was the beer I was looking forward to most. It disappointed some (4.3, unbelievable, I know) because I was hoping it could challenge my favorite Bell’s Hopslam. This had a great aroma of hops (pine, citrus) and also hints of malts and barley. Appearance was a very nice dark hazy orange with an off white head that started nice but faded. Flavor was strong hops of pine and citrus. Palate was great, bitter end was nice. Overall, definitely worth buying more of but not the best of the style. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 28, 2008 Pours a hazy orange color with a nice off white head. Aroma is of a lot of citrus hops and peaches maybe. Flavor is very abundant, nice citrus hops and some pine mixed in, and the fruit flavor in the hops really comes out. Really good stuff, but not quite up to par with Pliny or Hopslam. Hophead22 (1087), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA

Nice grassy/piney aroma, smells real good. Has a hell of a hop kick to it, pretty well balanced. Pretty nice beer overall. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Poured into a Stone OG tulip glass.
Appearance is an opaque dull orange with some amber highlights, thin layer of off-white creamy foam that dissipates to a ring, swaths of sticky lacing on the glass.
Smell is big, fragrant hops, mostly floral and pine resin, slight citrus tones, caramel and toast malts linger as does slight alcohol, very flavorful and delicious.
Taste is initially sweetened pine hops, transitions to thick chewy caramel and bready malts, tones of oranges and cotton candy, finishes bitter with a hint of alcohol warming.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, creamy and slick resiny texture, carbonation is ample but moderate.
Drinkability is high given the abv, a flavorful and balanced DIPA that has a nice interplay of hops and malts, I am impressed with the hop presence and this continues my obsession with this midwestern brewery. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA

Layers of flavor - not as bitter as I was expecting - very smooth. This is not my favorite style of brew but it is very good.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2008 Very hazy orange coloured brew with a fairly sticky white head. Aroma is quite nice. Tropical fruit, cascades and a lightly peppery alcoholic note as well. Some light candyish pale crystal malt sweetness. Floral and moderately perfumey as well. Fairly prominent on the orange peel and citrus. Flavour is quite pepery with a prominent alcoholic bite. There is a sticky resiny hoppines over a fairly prominent sweetness. Plenty of hop flavour but also with thick sweet and alcoholic character that reminds me of 90 minute IPA. Fairly sweet and sticky on the back. It’s good, but it’s not really my cup of tea. tmgiddings (6), , Indiana, USA does not count | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 21, 2008 Very little head, this beer is a hazy orange amber that clears as it sits. Strong floral hop scents floods the nostrils, but this beer isn’t all pretty flowers- there is definitely some dirt in this fat IIPA, yummy, gritty dirt. The flavor is very well balanced, and there is no alcohol flavor. There is, however, a warming effect, particularly in the back of the throat. A bitter brew, especially on the finish- very crisp. I love this beer. hayduke (1629), Eureka, California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Updated: Dec 25, 2008While in Munster,at the Three Floyds Brewpub, I was served a half pint of this amazing beer in a tulip glass. It was a beautiful gold to orange color. The bartender poured it with a one inch head and it left rich lacing rings. Seemed to be at about 55 degrees. Nose was amazing, with citrus hops and some ripe fruit, backed up by some tantalizing odors of pine and other things I honestly cannot identify. Suffice it to say is smells heavenly. Mouthfeel is really smooth and slick. Flavor is a very well balanced mixture of malts and hops. Finish is bitter but not overly so. A truly amazing beer. I brought home a bottle so I can share this with another beer lover.
This is an update from the bottle taken from the beer cellar and poured at 50 degrees F. From a 22 oz bottle this poured a beautiful copper color with a slightly off-white head and good thick lacing. About as wonderful of a nose as you can imagine from a beer, with floral, pine, and citrus hops. Almost eye watering. A very rich mouthfeel that is almost sticky and you want to hold on your tongue. Fantastic flavor. Just as good in the bottle as it was on draft. This is really one of the great beers of the world.
