PolakPorter (82), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 14, 2008 Deliciousness and delicocity combined. Best IPA I’ve had to date. So good I want to do dirty things to it. Aroma is oh so fruity and the taste clings to the tastebuds for days. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....love this beer. Just wish I could afford more of it DTM (541), Winters, California, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle aquired in trade with StFun. Poured a orange color with little to no head. Smelled of sweet citrus flavors. I was expecting a lot more bitter hop flavor but the hops were smooth on the palate. Along with a little bit of malt backbone made it smooth on the palate. Very good beer. timfoolery (482), California, USA Aug 12, 2008 From DTM trade back East. This brew was, of course, not typical of Imperial IPA as we’re used to on the West coast. There was a distiinct, malty backbone that held the brew up in your mouth. The hops were readily noticed along the wave of malt. This brew wasn’t overly hoppy, but it was without a doubt one of the best IPAs I’ve had. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Aug 11, 2008 pours dark dark orange. with small of white head aromas are of hops lots of of hops witha fruity nose. taste is intense with hops bitter and sweet and also dry. but i think i’ll keep to my stouts nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 11, 2008 650 ml takeout portion courtesy of General Gao. Fuzzy orange-copper with a medium head that turns to a lasting disc of cream, leaving a touch of frosting all over the glass. Big nose of sweet melon, molasses and orange is countered by some earthy resin, oak and cocoa. Front flavors are a great mix of orange, molasses, brown sugar and grapefruit. Turns to resin, wood, pecan and cocoa just enough to give great balance to the big malt and floral hops. Medium-heavy body is smooth with mild carbonation, lightly tingly with hops, and has a little touch of alcohol warming. The hop recipe/blend in this one is superb; doesn’t seem near as harsh as many others with much less IBUs. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bottle, bonus from trade with sprinkle, thanks Mike! Aroma of some citrus-ish hops, more mango, some sweet malt. Flavor has a ton of rich, sweet malt, but never becoming heavy, and a good quantity of airy, citrusy and moreso citric hops. Citric would be the key word here. Bold, but balanced in all aspects. I actually feel like a slightly fresher bottle would have been nothing but a hop bomb to me (not sure which hop varieties are in here, but I’m pretty sure they’re not my favs), but as consumed, was quite tasty and as mentioned, surprisingly easy drinking for such a quantity of that sweet malt. Very good, although certainly not in my personal top 50. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 10, 2008 #400!! Bottle. Pours a deep orange with hardly any head. Aroma is very citrusy, some grapefruit, iced tead and some sweet malts sneak in. Flavor is very sweet, lots of iced tea and citrus. Not as bitter as I was expecting. Quite drinkable for a 9.5%. Just a little too sweet for me. This is a good IIPA, but not my favorite, and there are plenty better. kegbear (265), Orange, California, USA Aug 10, 2008 Thanks to Glouglouburp for this great IIPA. Light golden amber with small white head. Stong floral aroma with peach dominating. Tastes of peach, mango and citrus. Starts off friuty followed by smooth light malty tastes and finishes crisp and dry. This is my second favorite IIPA only behind Pliny the Younger.
