Citrus aroma with the mentioned peach and mango and a hint of meatiness. Rather still on the tongue. Big hop flavor again mostly citrus and tropical fruit. Has some vegetative and metallic notes. Soft palate and perfect bitterness. Little perceived alcohol. Maybe this years not as good as past but i find this to be both over rated and not as good as times I’ve had previously. mcferc4 (56), New Jersey, USA

Poured a cloudy orange with a slight head. Might have poured it too cold. "Amethyst," says my buddy Brendan. Floral hoppy aroma, not as powerful as I expected. Taste: Wow... not as overwhelming on the hop end as I expect. Citrusy hops ride atop a very pronounced caramel malt backbone. Extremely well balanced. Alcohol is hidden remarkably well. Very smooth, long lasting finish. Wish I could drink this beer all the time.
Addendum: Compared side-by-side with Bells’ Hopslam. The aroma on the Dreadnaught is very different from the the Hopslam’s piney assault -- it has more caramel, toffee notes. The FFF has a lot more body.. Hopslam seems a bit fizzy in comparison. OSLO (826), Perth, Australia
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 14/20 | Feb 22, 2008 Updated: Jun 6, 2009[Bottle, big thanks to STLWill for sharing] Pours orange-amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is nice, sweet malt and citrusy (mostly tangerine). Taste is caramel malt, a good deal of the citrus again, and quite a bit of bitterness mainly in the long finish. Pretty smooth. A very good beer, but I was left just slightly disappointed. I hope to be able to try this on tap some time. Old rating: 8/3/7/4/16=3.8. Re-rate: [On-tap at Three Floyds] Pours amber with a nice off-white head that leaves good lacing. Nice citrusy nose with a little grassiness as well. Some sulfur after awhile. Big hoppy taste, but solid malt and restrained alcohol. Great mouthfeel, creamy, thick and has a good dry finish. Pastor (509), Maine, USA

The 22 oz bomber poured into a tulip glass produced a fingers worth of head that turned to lace rather quickly. It has a wonderfull clear copper body
Aromas of pine and citrus a very nice floral smell as well
Flavors of sweet malt up front that kind of surprised me it really help balance out the piney hop bitter
Nice carbonation medium body with a truly smooth almost oily finish
Very drinkable beer I want to try it again I wish there was a freshness date on the bottle being so highly rated I didn’t think it was up to the hype Its good don’t get me wrong I can think of a few that I like better thought

Well, almost nothing. If you are planning to consume this beer it must be poured into the proper glassware. If you do not have this, wait to consume the beer.
Poured into a tulip of course, this beer is orange, with an inch of white head. It fades, but maintains a small head. Some lace clings to the glass.
It has been far to long since I have enjoyed this smell. I could get a similar effect from sniffing a pine cone. Some citrus is thrown in there as well. This is the finest nose of any IIPA I have encountered. I feel the same way about the taste. There is a barrage of piney, citrus infused artillery, with a single burst of sweet, caramel malt fire in the midst of all that.
The mouthfeel is lightly, very creamy. That is not a typo. Drinkability is high. I use that word often, so to be more specific, I have been known to drink three of these in a night. I’m just rambling here, but wine connoisseurs pay a lot more for a comparable amount of the finest wines in the world, however, many breweries put out equally world class beers at considerably less price.
Edit: I must blame my 4.5 appearance score the last time on a dirty glass. Tonight’s pour into a thoroughly rinsed glass yielded the two inch head and blanketing lace that I expect from IN’s finest.

This poured a clear amber with essentially no head other than a thin white edge around the glass. This smelled grassy and sweet malt. The citrus was there, but not prominent. Taste was grassy hops with a subtle sweetness. Definitely the hops was way more noticeable than the malt. Mouthfeel was medium with dry, bitter aftertaste. Beerlando (2310), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 17, 2008 Pours a crystal clear, medium orange-gold amber color. A foamy, dense, cream colored head shows good retention, leaving sticky cobweb lacing all the way down the glass. The lovely aroma shows massive notes of seemingly every hop variety, from bittersweet grapefruit to fresh cut grass and resinous pine. Buttery toffee and sweet, rich caramel provide the massive malt base that it needs to stand up to the hop onslaught. Fresh peaches and mangos add complimentary fruitiness and depth. The flavor follows these same lines. The richness of the buttery toffee stands up very well to the bitterness of the grapefruit and pine. Tropical notes emerge from the thick liquid and spread out across the mouth, adding a soothing effect. Soon after, however, the long, bitter finish attacks the roof of the mouth and reminds you who is boss. This is a truly excellent IIPA that is bested by only a few rare specimens that I have tried. Powerful hop aroma. Lots of sweet malt in the flavor as well as abundant hops, with citrus and pine. Thick, heavy and sweet, it might fairly be called a barleywine as well as as Double IPA.
