Pours extremely hazy, medium to dark medium copper, formed little to no foamy head. Aroma strong of hop and pine resins. People, we’ve entered the Holy of Holies! Grapefruit and hops prevail, here we go!! Flavour is full bodied, grapefruit, wet forrest hops and pine resins. This beer is truly a gift from God, I would love to try this wonderful ale on tap and/or cask. Three Floyds has done it, beer at its finest!! illidurit (876), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jan 26, 2008 This beer falls a hazy pale orange into my snifter, topped with a nice 3 finger head. Incredible lacing and good retention.
Sweet grapefruit, pine sap, biscuity malt, some sweeter citruses like tangerine and orange on the nose.
Hops obviously control the show here, but the range of hop flavors keeps it from being overly one-dimensional. Obviously grapefruit has a strong presence, as well as orange, citrus zest, and maybe even peach. A decent amount of malt futilely fights the whirlwind of hops.
The carbonation really is perfect. I can’t imagine a more finely carbonated IPA. I spent about as much time swirling the beer around the glass and watching the cascades of lacing form and dissolve as I did drinking! Mesmerizing stuff. Great brew. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA

Flavor is a lot of hops that is nicely balanced with malty sweetness. Perfect amount of hops for my liking. Sweet to bitter with a long finish. Awesome Double IPA. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 21, 2008 From a 22oz bottle. Pours a dark amber/copper with small white head. Aroma of floral and grapefruit/citrusy hops. Smell great. Taste is more hops. floral hops give way to a great grapefruity flavor with some caramel malts. A fantastic DIPA. The alcohol is well hidden and going through this 22 oz bottle was no challenge. Wish I had more. jhumphries69 (722), Tyrone, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jan 21, 2008 22oz bomber, 2005 vintage, from CaptainCougar. Pours a very attractive, slightly hazy orange - when held up to the light, you can see a rainbow of highlights ranging from yellow to copper. The head pours up medium in thickness, but doesn’t persist long - after it passes, there is a thin, spotted layer of off-white foam that laces the glass heavily. The aroma is thick and hoppy. There are lots of hops in that aroma - citrus and pit fruit. And there are also lots of malts in the aroma - complex and full of caramel, like an overly hopped English barley wine (if the bottle were from 2007, the hops would likely be much more pungent). The beer starts with a malty, cakey sweetness that is clean and delightfully sweet - just the right amount of sweetness to balance the awesome hop flavor - flowery and fruity: dates, mangos, and oranges. In the middle of the tongue, the big, flowery, citrus hop flavor begins to give way to a mild, earthy bitterness combined with a big, thick, caramel, toffee, doughy maltiness. The bitterness grows substantially towards the finish. The finish is dry, grassy, and bitter with hints of resin, pine sap, and honey. The finish also has a big dose of malts that is, like components of the aroma, reminiscent of an English barleywine. The mouthfeel is perfect - it starts full in body but seems to get lighter as it finds its way towards your gullet. The carbonation level is nice - it adds a subtle sting that complements the big hop flavor nicely, and it makes for a nice creamy texture. Overall, very nice - I really want to try a fresher bottle now to see just how big and bold the hops are. matt7215 (956), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2008 Pours a cloudy light golden color with a medium frothy head and lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is grassy, orange, pineapple, and peach. What an interesting taste and mouthfeel. Is a bit bitter and grassy up front and then finishes off with mango and pineapple. Would have been perfect if the bitterness was tugged back and the citrus flavors brightened........but then you’d have the Hopslam. thewolf (5722), Kolding, Denmark

Pours a great-looking hazy yellow-orange golden. A small creamy film head on top. Aroma is bitter, hoppy and lightly fruity. Super nice mouthfeel. Flavour is complex bitter, lots of oranges, pineapple, grass (is there English hops in this?). Not as bitter as the Green Flash, but a wonderful balance. I slightly prefer the Green Flash, but this is still wonderful.
