BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Jan 7, 2008 One word comes to mind...JUICY!!! Once the bottle opens, the aroma pours out and the salivating begins. Thick pillowy head and burnt orange liquid fill the glass. The brew starts sweet, but the hops kick in quickly...amazing balance. Undoubtedly, the best Double IPA I’ve ever had!!! jseremet (5), USA does not count Jan 4, 2008 I love this beer. I live in soCal, so it’s nowhere to be found. Fruity, hearty and wonderful. Maybe a bit too sweet, but it’s a very, very minor complaint. Found it while with my girlfriend outside her folks’ place near Chicago. I had it to celebrate the Patriots going 16-0, and it did NOT disappoint. I have one more bomber left, and will drink it when the Pats (hopefully) go 19-0. Cheers! And someone tell these guys to broaden their distribution. All of their stuff is dynamite. ilovedarkbeer (1326), Dallas, Texas, USA Jan 2, 2008 Wow. Pours a thick orange color with a medium sized bubbly head. Nose is marijuana. seriously. intense hop oil aroma. Notes of pine and some grapefruit. Mouthfeel is fantastic and feels thick on the tongue. Warming finish. Tastes like a christmas tree and a bag of pot. I don’t know how else to describe it. Great beer but a bit overwhelming. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Jan 1, 2008 Bottle, 22oz. (RBNAG 07) Pours an orange-golden, almost clear pour with an off-white to beige head. It sure has a hop-dominated aroma, fruity, tropical fruits and citrus, pine and resin, with a heavy maltyness in the supporting role. Nice flavor too, fruity, piney, malty, quite sweet and sure bitter. Fruity, piney, bitter finish as well. Full body. Loved this IIPA, beautiful mix of hops and malt. (071103) Gregis (1132), Shawnee, Kansas, USA Jan 1, 2008 Bomber from Crown #15, in Fishers, IN. Pours a pretty, cloudy, deep orange with a bit of sediment and a creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is a hop-lover’s dream: big sweet malty caramel front with huge, fruity, citrus hops. Very nice. Medium to full-bodied and slick with a big bitter, yet balanced, finish. The flavor is just a touch below the nose, but is exactly what I like in an IIPA: a big, sweet caramel malt front with equally huge citric and piny hops. This is a very good beer, and once again I am thoroughly impressed with a 3F offering. It’s not hard to see why this is rated so highly. Hank1980 (732), Athens, Georgia, USA Dec 31, 2007 Pour is a deep copper with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, with grapefruit dominating. Lemon (?) is present as well. Flavor is also heavy with citrus, with grapefruit being the main player. Finish is very heavy with hops. Finish coats your mouth with heavy bittering hops. Carbonation is pretty heavy as well. Excellent IIPA with great bittering. doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA Dec 30, 2007 I like this beer but I was expecting more from a name like Dreadnaught. Not bad at all but just a little too sweet. Pours a cloudy honey color with a thin head that is white and dense. Not a huge nose on this brew, slightly citrusy with a little bit of a grassy, hoppy smell. Tastes very sweet up front with a good amount of bitterness on the back of the throat and tongue. Some citrus in there maybe a bit of grapefruit and some caramel sweetness. Pretty thick with decent carbonation. Not a bad big IPA. Tilley4 (218), Huron, Tennessee, USA Dec 28, 2007 In the world of Imperial IPAs, there’s simply nothing better. This is one amazing beer as is every Three Floyds that I’ve had the opportunity to try.
Pours incredibly hazy orange, not much in the way of a head but no matter....
Good grief, I smelt this thing 3 seconds after cracking open the top. Super, super citrusy hop aromas with a huge pineapple or peach influence. Man, this is right up this hop lover’s alley.
Mmmmm.... Everything I hoped it would be. This is just over the top hoppiness all the way here. 100 % juicy citrus hops here and I love it. You know what you’re getting when you crack this open and it certainly doesn’t disappoint.
All other IIPAs bow to this one as king. Unfortunately, I have to drive 4 hours to get my hands on this. I have 5 bombers of this left and wish now that I had gone ahead and bought a case.
God, these guys know how to make beer. They’re over the top, in your face brews and that’s just the way we like it.
