Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

22 oz. bottle via trade with Ty. Shared with Naka, Nate and foureyedgeek. Pours Orange w/ amber hues. Hazy with a small, off-white, foamy head which dissipates to a thin ring. Nose is big and caramely w/ a faint resiny citrus aroma lurking around. Sweet caramel background with viscous, resiny and sticky floral and citrus hops. Almost tea-esque. I didn’t expect this to be as sweet as it is, almost too much malt. Complexity was there. Great beer overall, just not quite what I expected.

From bomber, courtesy of dpjuart. Caramel and mild toffee, biscuity sweet. Underlying hop aroma that feels as though there’s a beast underneath calm waters. Brown sugar, pine resin, grapefruit rind, and musty funk. Lustrous amber-orange hazy with thin off-white thin lacing head. Heavy watery body with mild-medium carbonation. A bit warming. Starts sweet with caramel and biscuit, brown sugar, and huge malt character. A bit too syrupy sweet. Hops come in hard with apricot, grapefruit, and pine resin. Sweet sticky finish with medium bitter. Sweet after. A bit overpowering. After is bitter on tongue.

The beer poured a thick head with medium sized bubbles which immediately began to dissipate. This was a very clear copper in color and the nose was filled with scents of grapefruit, piney hops, caramel and spice. In the mouth the midpalate was rich and mouth-coating with solid weight. While there were tons of hops, they were well-balanced with some sweet malt. Again, with tons of hops, the finish had the bitterness one would expect but it was well balanced with malt that it did not come off as overtly bitter and dry. This is an extremely balanced with that has lots of everything. Yum!

One word comes to mind...JUICY!!! Once the bottle opens, the aroma pours out and the salivating begins. Thick pillowy head and burnt orange liquid fill the glass. The brew starts sweet, but the hops kick in quickly...amazing balance. Undoubtedly, the best Double IPA I’ve ever had!!!

I love this beer. I live in soCal, so it’s nowhere to be found. Fruity, hearty and wonderful. Maybe a bit too sweet, but it’s a very, very minor complaint. Found it while with my girlfriend outside her folks’ place near Chicago. I had it to celebrate the Patriots going 16-0, and it did NOT disappoint. I have one more bomber left, and will drink it when the Pats (hopefully) go 19-0. Cheers! And someone tell these guys to broaden their distribution. All of their stuff is dynamite.

Wow. Pours a thick orange color with a medium sized bubbly head. Nose is marijuana. seriously. intense hop oil aroma. Notes of pine and some grapefruit. Mouthfeel is fantastic and feels thick on the tongue. Warming finish. Tastes like a christmas tree and a bag of pot. I don’t know how else to describe it. Great beer but a bit overwhelming.

Bottle, 22oz. (RBNAG 07) Pours an orange-golden, almost clear pour with an off-white to beige head. It sure has a hop-dominated aroma, fruity, tropical fruits and citrus, pine and resin, with a heavy maltyness in the supporting role. Nice flavor too, fruity, piney, malty, quite sweet and sure bitter. Fruity, piney, bitter finish as well. Full body. Loved this IIPA, beautiful mix of hops and malt. (071103)

Bomber from Crown #15, in Fishers, IN. Pours a pretty, cloudy, deep orange with a bit of sediment and a creamy beige head that laces nicely. The nose is a hop-lover’s dream: big sweet malty caramel front with huge, fruity, citrus hops. Very nice. Medium to full-bodied and slick with a big bitter, yet balanced, finish. The flavor is just a touch below the nose, but is exactly what I like in an IIPA: a big, sweet caramel malt front with equally huge citric and piny hops. This is a very good beer, and once again I am thoroughly impressed with a 3F offering. It’s not hard to see why this is rated so highly.
