Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

22oz bottle shared with IPA-loving friend. My foray into craft IPAs began with Dogfish 60 and 90, which remain two of my faves. This is just a special beer. Pours big, nice body, nice nose. Citrus, mangos, pine aromas. Deliciously hoppy with a clean finish.

Tasted 9/30/07. 22oz bomber. Tasted this after the Boulevard Double wide IPA. So much of this is a comparison. Slightly darker hue than the previous. Less initial head. Smoother aromas. Milder nose. Full bodied with higher gravity. More rounded, smoother and bigger. Better melding and more of a hop profile. Hugely bigger alcohol burn. Less dry, but so much bigger. Citrus piney perfumy peppery long trail of hop flavors. More so tart. Hits the sides of the tongue and moves south. More of a candy sweetness. I’m so glad I didn’t share this! This is such a huge beer! Super big comparitively, but this in itself has few rivals!

Yummy! This beer like all Three floyds is tasty. Mango, Oranges, peaches, hops and malt very noticeable. Alcohol hidden. not much head. I just had the alpha Kong so this beer seems weaker in many aspects. Still one of the best beers I have had.

All I can say is WOW. I’ve been waiting to try this beer for a long time now. Finally it is a few inches from my lips. Immediately a huge bold citrusy and fruity smell hits my nose. This beer’s aroma is HUGE! Flavor follows the aroma perfectly big and citrusy, very bitter but a very SMOOTH bitterness that lingers on and on. Alcohol is completely hidden. I’ve only rated a few other beers as perfect 5’s, after tasting this beer I’m going to have to go back and reduce all those other ratings. This puts all other beers to shame. Best beer ever.

From bomber courtesy jcr, thanks John! : Pours a hazy orange-apricot looking color with not much head. Very aromatic, with hops and mango. Medium body smooth in the mouth and bitter on the end. Alcohol is pretty well hidden. Hop flavor with fruity citrus notes toward the end.

I love this beer. Great aroma and color. The nicely hopped and the right amount of bitterness.
