flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA Aug 8, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours slightly hazy gold amber with a nice off-white head. Sweet grapefruit and floral hop aromas combine with honey, caramel, and biscuit. Flavors are grapefruit hops with some spicy and floral hops, moderately sweet, with biscuit malts with caramel hints. Very bitter finish with some grassy and grapefruit hop aftertaste. Really nice work here. beerwolf77 (42), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Aug 4, 2009 Well here it is "the Dreadnaught". I’ve been dreaming of sampling this one. It pours a muddy orange amber. A moderate head resides on top of my pint glass. A smattering of lace. The aroma is like an ocean of hops. So piney and sour smelling. It’s an amazing boquet of sour fruit and hop cones. The flavor is huge. A blast of pine and sour then malt smoothness with a touch of alcohol on the finish. This seems like a perfect balance of hop bomb and smooth malt. The medium body with plenty of carbonation to round it out. The high abv is there but fits nicely and makes me feel warm and fuzzy. This is my first IIPA and I must say I’m really starting to enjoy becoming a hop head.
cexshun (57), Portage, Indiana, USA Aug 3, 2009 Pours a hazy orange with a creamy, snowy white head. Aroma of citrus and pine. Fairly basic nose as most IPAs are. First sip gives a strong lemon up front. Very sweet, peach maybe. Strong malt base rounds the beer out. Very balanced. Most IPAs are all hops and nothing but the hops. This blends it so well that you won’t believe it’s 100IBUs. Strykzone (1458), Wood River, Illinois, USA Aug 2, 2009 Enjoyed at the Rotten Apple. What a nice beer. So much floral stuff going on in both aroma and flavor. Plenty of pine, too. And so nicely balanced by caramel. Another outstanding beer from Three Floyds. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Jul 29, 2009 Generously and graciously shared at DDG release day. Hazy golden amber. Nose is sweet, fruity hops, and smooth. Bit of vanilla and funk. Hints of cat pee, but in a good way. Taste is sweet. No bitter hops, but citrus. Full in the mouth. Would need to try an entire bomber next time. Please? yemenmocha (344), Glendale, Arizona, USA Jul 28, 2009 Slight haze, orange to light amber color, with thin wispy head.
Nose has pleasant gummy bear candied character, with grapefruit & OJ citrusy aromas.
Big malt and hop, grapefruit rind on the palate. Full bodied and very creamy, with lingering spice, yet somehow the alcohol is subdued. Allstar (30), , Virginia, USA Jul 20, 2009 Pours golden. Strong citrus smell. You can taste the light hops, with a taste of citrus. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Jul 20, 2009 Bottled acquired via trade and shared with my good friend Lemur. Pours out a vivid orange with a one inch white head and big lacing. Aroma is big citrus hops, very much orange and peach with some light grapefruit and a nice caramel malt backing. Flavor is big and bodacious, huge citrus hops, some light pine and a delicious malt finish. This beer was full of hype, but it did not disappoint. It was a little sweeter than I expected from something claiming to be 100 IBUs though.
