Pours a slightly hazy sparkling orange with an average size lasting off-white head. Aroma is HOPS, HOPS, HOPS! -- lots of citrus and pine. There’s also a really nice fruity sweetness there to balance it out making for one damn fine aroma -- I couldn’t wait to taste it. The flavour, which does not dissapoint, is also really hoppy yet sooo easy to drink. A wonderful medley of juicy hops nicely balanced with sweet malt and a pleasant long bitter finish. Practically no sign of that 9.5% alcohol. Creamy mouthfeel and full bodied. I wish I had more to write for this stunning beer, it’s simply one kick-ass IPA and I hope to enjoy many more in the future. BeerandBlues2 (3230), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 27, 2006 22-oz. bottle from tjthresh, shared with chadzter. Pours amber with a tiny fizzy off-white head, slight spotty lacing. Aroma is sweet candied citrus hops, fragrant floral and fruity hops follow, caramel nutty malt (cookie, straw), yeast (grassy), pine hop and alcohol nose; a very inviting aroma. Medium acidity and bitterness, malt and hop flavor, caramel, candied hops, spicy citrus and pine, alcohol at the end. Full bodied and creamy yet spicy and dry palate. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 6, 2004 Updated: Apr 6, 2005Ruination, you have been replaced. Beautiful tan head sits on top of sweet liquid gold. This shit is the really good. My only complaint is you have to drink it mega-fresh or the hops fall out really fast, leaving it way too malty and sweet. TomDecapolis (3203), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Oct 6, 2005 Updated: Jan 11, 2006Picked this up at Ortinos Northside, they just got it, but unfortunetly they were selling it for $13.50 a bottle. Pours a translucent light orange amber with a small off white head. The aroma is strong. Almost hard to really describe. Picking up orange peel or orange candy almost with some pine. The flavor is citrus with some alcohol in the tail. Hops for sure, but again hard to put into words...just good. this one felt great on the palate, creamy for an IPA.

Re-rate. I figured I would re-rate since the first bottle I had was shared and was served a bit on the cold side. My description above stays pretty much the same. This 2nd time around the aroma just blew me away. TheBeerGod (3168), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 16, 2003 Finally got my hands on this, thanks to Mike at Bon Vivant Market in Smithfield, VA. Pours a brownish amber with a small, quickly receding white head. The nose is a full hop bouquet with a splash of peach or nectarine. The taste expands on the hops character. This is VERY rich. More citrus fruit on the tongue with a huge floral aftertaste. Not as bitter as I expected. Finishes with a slight hop bitterness as well. Does this live up to the hype? I think so. Is it the be all end all of IPA's? I'd have to say no, BUT this is a highly recommended IPA and an even higher recommended beer! PorterPounder (3147), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 29, 2004 Excellent! The aroma of spruce hits you the moment you open the bottle. The pour is dark golden with a sticky white head and heavy lacing. Flavor is somewhat sweet and at the same time sour. Heavy Cascade hops presence, but dovetailed nicely in with the malts. Luxuriant mouthfeel, does not leave the tongue numb like some high IBU beers, coats it well. Spruce, grapefruit and mint finish it off nicely. An excellent Double IPA. Fishinses extraordinarily strong. A winner. GeneralGao (3071), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2007 22 oz bottle. Poured a clear orange color. Head was off white and reduced to a thin film that left a little lace behind. Smelled of crushed pine needles, malty cereal grain, and a touch of citrus. Medium bodied and slightly sweet. Fruity flavor with hints of citrus, peach, and apricot. There is also some biscuity malt and alcohol. Moderate hop bitterness that peaks at the end and lingers. The alcohol warms as it settles into the stomach. WeeHeavySD (3040), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA

22oz bomber, curtesy of my pal and fellow brew rater, Bartzilla. Beer 5 of the Bartzilla’s Death Metal Beer Tasting 1/12/2007, consumed with many great beer drinkers including Bartzilla, Naven, as well as Lee creator of Arrogant Bastard, and a really cool guy.
This is a really seriously potent DIPA, and it really knocks you down with all that hoppy potency it smells great, lots of hops right there in the nose. The taste though is pretty phenomenal. Although I had it after many other beers, I may still say that I prefer DFH 90 minute to this brew, maybe its out of habbit, but thsi brew seems to lack some of the complexity of the 90 minute. It is damn good no doubt.
