Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Re-rate of a fresh bottle from motortoddhead. This is yummy and the citrus is amazing. 22oz bomber, curtesy of my pal and fellow brew rater, Bartzilla. Beer 5 of the Bartzilla’s Death Metal Beer Tasting 1/12/2007, consumed with many great beer drinkers including Bartzilla, Naven, as well as Lee creator of Arrogant Bastard, and a really cool guy. This is a really seriously potent DIPA, and it really knocks you down with all that hoppy potency it smells great, lots of hops right there in the nose. The taste though is pretty phenomenal. Although I had it after many other beers, I may still say that I prefer DFH 90 minute to this brew, maybe its out of habbit, but thsi brew seems to lack some of the complexity of the 90 minute. It is damn good no doubt.

Medium offwhite head. Orange body. Citric straw and malt aroma with caramel notes. Dry medicinal straw taste with sweetish honey and resin notes. Fantastic richness in the taste. Excellent! (0.66l bottle at RBNAG’07. Quite late, so want to rerate this.)

Shared by STLWill, it is about time I finally found this beer. And I was not disappointed. Powerful hop aroma. Lots of sweet malt in the flavor as well as abundant hops, with citrus and pine. Thick, heavy and sweet, it might fairly be called a barleywine as well as as Double IPA.

Ok, this is my very first Double IPA. Orange colour with hints of orange. Big, thick longlasting white head. Heck, what an aroma... Piney, citrousy, sparkling hops. And of course, grapefruit... I am just stunned by this aroma... Taste is just like a hop liquidid and/or light spirit. Very grapefruity and floral flavour. I can barely taste the alcohol. But it is evident in the belly. World-class, of course. This new double IPA style really had a huge impress on me. Sooo. thanks ciderguy for this truly marvelous beer!!

Bottle. Amber beer with a thin off-white head. Summer/tropical fruit aroma with some grapefruit and pine. Tropical fruit and pine flavor with some grapefruit and a bit of caramel. Medium-plus body. Lingering fruit, malt, and a bit of dusty earthiness.

On tap at the brewery. The pour reveals an attractive clear golden color with a medium white head. Superb aroma of fruity hops accompanied by some sturdy malt. The flavor is amazing, the hops are strong, assertive and feel fruity (mangos, peaches, citrus), but this beer isn’t just about hops, there’s a sturdy malt backbone that gives balance to this gem, I like the balance in this beer and I also like that the alcohol is not present, the whole ride finishes with a strong and lasting bitterness. The body has a light to medium thickness with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. It was well worth the whole trip from Montreal to sample this amazing beer on tap, I would do it again any time.
