Smells very hoppy with notes of pine, resin, and grapefruit. Poured amber in color with a small tan head that diminished quickly. Good lacing. Hazy. Sparkling. Flavor is heavily bitter. Tastes strongly of hops, with flavor of grapefruit and pine. Medium body. Smooth, creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long bitter finish. Overall, a very good Imperial IPA. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 23, 2008 65 cl bottle. Tasted in comparisson with other double IPAs. I had very high expectations for this beer:
Hazy amber colour with a little white head. Amazing, lovely aroma of nice, fat, and high alpha hops such as citrus, peach, melon, and caramel. Great taste of hops and burned caramel. Well-balanced proportion of hops and caramel. Ends up bitterand alcoholicly. It gets better and better for every sip! 65 cl of amazing sips :o) Svesse (2679), Hässelby, Sweden
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 27, 2006 Updated: May 23, 2006(Bottled, Oliver Twist, Stockholm, shared with henrikb) Dark amber colour with disappearing head. Nose is fruity, flowery, sweet with hints of raisins and ... well, hops (and a fair deal of them as well), complex but a bit harsh. Taste is fruity, sweet , hoppy and a bit syrupy with a harsher, slightly drier finish with apricots, raisins and even some chocolate. Extremely hoppy, but still very drinkable and very nice. Balanced? Well, not really. notalush (2675), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 3, 2003 Updated: Jul 29, 2006[re-rate - original 4.5 - the newer bottled versions are still good, but not really worthy of top 50 status] [draught] @#$%, this is great stuff! Everything an imperial IPA should be - huge hops presence - thick, very citrusy, with a mild sweetness that lingers on the tongue - like a doubly strong and doubly tasty version of alpha king. nick76 (2669), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Feb 18, 2009 The aroma is very nice with pine, citrus, flowers, mango, peach, and caramel. The appearance is hazy amber with an average head for the style. The flavor is like the aroma with a very bitter finish. The palate is typical for the style. Overall this is a decent beer but overrated. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 24, 2003 Ah, is there any better aroma than that of a “Truly Magnificent Beer”? In my humble opinion, “NO”! Dreadnaught is a beer I’ve looked forward to sampling, since I read the first review.
Also one other thing I’ve noticed, on this site and others, either you love it or you dislike it intensely.
The color an unclouded copper, the head Bunyanesque in stature, spumescent in texture, the color a lovesome light tan. “Ah that smell”, the freshness of a Pine forest after a spring rain combined with the heady aroma of fresh picked hop flowers, the delightful sweet malt underpinnings, citrus crisp and fresh, a treat for the olfactory senses, hell a treat for the eyes also. Start is sweet to the point of distraction, the malt thick and chewy, the top middling in its feel to the palate. Finish pleasantly acidic, the hops ferine in their bite, bittersweet, purposeful and a very dry aftertaste, with the hops sticking to your taste buds for days, and one fine quaffing beer, my vote, I love it!
As a point of interest this is certainly not a beer for the weak of palate, or those not into hops or high ABV, so my advise, leave it alone as the rest of us “Hop Heads”, will certainly appreciate it.

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 29, 2004 Smells like an old homebrewing cascade hop sock stuffed with oranges. Very, very citrusy, muted toffee, hop bittering isn't overdone. A bit like a Valencia screwdriver with a rosemary twist. ABV is pretty subdued. Very good mouth and body, the quit is medium-long, but not too tart. Edgy hop finish on the sides of the tongue. Very good beer, but it ain't 100 percentile. Jeppe (2638), Ølbutikken, Denmark
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 5, 2004 Pours a hazy orange body with a small head. Aroma is strong hoppy and fruity with some nut and toffee and a bite of alcohol. Quite thick and sweet. Flavor is sweet at first but turns bitter hoppy in the mouth. Very full-bodied and very hoppy with a dry finish. Undertones of nut and chocolate. Very heavy, thick and cloying and really too much to make it a top 10 beer! Still a good and interesting IPA!
