Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Hazy orange color with a small creamy off-white head that fully diminishes. Sweet floral hops aroma with a strong caramel presense. Nice floral bitter flavor with some clear caramel notes. Some hints of light citrus in the end. Thanks to CaptainCougar for sending this to Richmond.

God damn what a monster. I’m gonna be pissing hop-juice tonight, thats for sure. Mega-fresh bottle (less than 20 days), and you can tell. Hops are absolutely explosive in the aroma, singeing the sinuses with citrus, simcoe, and salami... err, sorry, just wanted to keep alliterating. Tongue is sizzled with bitterness, but not until lethal hop-doses knock you on your ass. Alright, get it? This is not a beer, its just hop-oils in a bottle. Not that that’s a bad thing.

Bottle: A highly anticipated beer, which I finally have, and it doesn’t live up to the hype. (Though I’ve heard you must have it extremely fresh, and this bottle wasn’t) Deep orange/cooper pour with a strong off white film. Lots of sweet/sticky resinous hop leaf in the aroma with light catty suggestions, honey, light mango and a touch of vegetal. Slick warming body. Big bodied, with a lot of honey and crystal malt sweetness. Underneath is some vegetal and resiny hops with a touch of lychee. I expected more, as it’s just very sweet with no subtlety. Still a decent IIPA. Now I need a fresh one, perhaps it will live up to the hype.

Had this again with the regular crew and my numbers came out exactly the same. It was interesting trying it again, after having a ton of beers in the style in the mean time, and to see that this one still holds up very well. In fact, I found it a little bit less in your face like Hercules and ridiculously easy to drink. Man, I love this stuff...numbers stay the same... Dark Orange pour. Small white head. Lovely, inviting balanced dose of fresh hops in aroma - can’t describe how much this aroma made me want to try this beer. Very hoppy malty brew - again, incredibly well balanced for this much going on. The hops were citrusy and prominent, but not overpowering (or obvious - I couldn’t pick out the type). Just a solid beer. Thanks for sharing jercraigs.

[485-20070804] 22oz (c/o HogTownHarry). Sweet fruit aroma with strong citrus hops and some pine resiny notes. Hazy, amber red body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Great big boozy citrus hops flavour. Full body has noticeable alcohol. Rather impressive, though not yet a favourite. (8/4/7/4/16) 3.9

[754B-20071012] 22floz. Citrus lemon rind hops aroma has some grapefruit. Hazy, dark orange brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Bitter grapefruit and navel orange hops in the flavour has a boozy almost sweaty notes. Medium body, very bitter finish. Bitter and hoppy goodness. (8/4/8/4/17) 4.1

Bottle: Second time I’ve had this but first time I’ve rated it. Better than I remeber. Strong citrus grapefruit aroma. Malty up front with a fantastic hop finish. Nice citrus presence with some orange. Finishes hoppy with a nice sweet balance. Very smooth. Excellent beer and a second thanks to Wolhfs for another tasting.

well shit. I lost my original rating of this when I hit save. See the other people’s ratings. All I have to say is that this is really f$#%^ing good. mmmmm I concur with most everything everyone else says. I do detect oranges in the aroma and flavor. This was my 75 beer mark. 9, 5, 9, 4, 19 = 4.6
Rerate: I had a new bottle of this. It’s still great on aroma, but the malt is definitely less than last time. 9, 5, 8, 4, 17 = 4.3

From bomber, courtesy of dpjuart. Caramel and mild toffee, biscuity sweet. Underlying hop aroma that feels as though there’s a beast underneath calm waters. Brown sugar, pine resin, grapefruit rind, and musty funk. Lustrous amber-orange hazy with thin off-white thin lacing head. Heavy watery body with mild-medium carbonation. A bit warming. Starts sweet with caramel and biscuit, brown sugar, and huge malt character. A bit too syrupy sweet. Hops come in hard with apricot, grapefruit, and pine resin. Sweet sticky finish with medium bitter. Sweet after. A bit overpowering. After is bitter on tongue.
