Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Bottle from Jamvin23. Pours golden orange with an off white head. Sweet hoppy aroma, with fruity citrus, grapefruit, and fresh flowers. The flavor is actually relatively well balanced. Loads of citric and floral hops, but enough malt to make it not overpowering. Fruity flourishes add a nice sweet complexity. The finish was hoppy but not palate destroyingly bitter. I actually found this very easy to drink, quite enjoyable. Not the palate destoyer that I expected, but a very drinkable and accessible IIPA.

Tap at The Map Room, Chicago. I am assuming this is the current vintage, as it was very fresh. Pour is a clear orange copper color with a quickly fading white head. Aroma is hops, very bright (head clearing) hops. Taste shows a lot more maltiness than I was expecting, and of course the hops throughout. The hops are really diverse, there is citrus (more orange than lemon) floral and sweetness. The finish is a nice sharp bitter hop affair. Really nice brew, glad I was able to try it on draft.

2003 bottle by way of temporrari.poured into a snifter to recieve a beautiful golden brown with a white head that simmered quickly.i lifted the dread to my nose and gathered some pine, citurs, floral, caramel, and forest type aromas.the flavor was nice and complex.pine, caramel, earth, flowers, citurs, and hay all blended well onto my tounge.it also had a nice thick mouthfeel with a bit of a bite right inthe middle.this is yet another outstanding brew by the floyd’s brothers.

22 oz bomber. For my 100th rating I had to do something special, and 3 Floyds Dreadnaught seems appropriate - the top D/IIPA. Bought a case of 12 of these for $89 and I think its well worth the money. Nice hazy copper pour. Absolutely wonderful hoppy aroma that makes you salivate. Absolutely the best balanced IPA (or DIIPA) Around. Smooth malts balance with finely hopped wonderfulness that explains why this is head and shoulders above the rest. Very nice hop profile (Simcoe definately included, but not sure how much) that makes you want more. Wow. Finish and aftertaste very pleasant. Its rare that I’ll drink a bomber this fast, and thats only because its THAT good. Lives up to the hype and then some!!!!!

While in Munster,at the Three Floyds Brewpub, I was served a half pint of this amazing beer in a tulip glass. It was a beautiful gold to orange color. The bartender poured it with a one inch head and it left rich lacing rings. Seemed to be at about 55 degrees. Nose was amazing, with citrus hops and some ripe fruit, backed up by some tantalizing odors of pine and other things I honestly cannot identify. Suffice it to say is smells heavenly. Mouthfeel is really smooth and slick. Flavor is a very well balanced mixture of malts and hops. Finish is bitter but not overly so. A truly amazing beer. I brought home a bottle so I can share this with another beer lover. This is an update from the bottle taken from the beer cellar and poured at 50 degrees F. From a 22 oz bottle this poured a beautiful copper color with a slightly off-white head and good thick lacing. About as wonderful of a nose as you can imagine from a beer, with floral, pine, and citrus hops. Almost eye watering. A very rich mouthfeel that is almost sticky and you want to hold on your tongue. Fantastic flavor. Just as good in the bottle as it was on draft. This is really one of the great beers of the world.

Thanks to Wohlfs for the tasting. dark copper with average whitehead. Big citrus hop aroma, carribean fruit galore. Mango, pineapple, tangerine, orange, and grapefruit. Nice caramel malt background. Huge caramel malt up front, turns to blend of citrus hops, mandarin orange or tangerine. Flavor bounces between malt sweetness and citrus hop bitters. Very well balanced for such an over the top brew, tons of residuel sweetness though. Great oily smooth mouthfeel. Another beer where my review does no justice.
