Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

Big ups to brewblackhole for sending me this one. My favorite double IPA to date. An aromatic hop explosion. Big hop taste lacking the usual sweet sugariness that overpowers some other double IPAs.

definitely not understanding the hug numbers this gets. Clean and defect free, yes. Boring yes.Overly soft and alcohol forward, this is all about the malt. NOT and Imperial IPA. Had this before Pliny the Elder and Drakes Denogonizer good thing beacause it was not noticeable when we went back to it afterwards. This need way more hop bitterness and floral resins. Good decent clean beer that is just plain boring. re-rated and it is even worse than before. Boring with a capital B. Sweet and malt forward with little hop presence. I cannot stand a sweet IPA they need to be dry and much more hop forward and resinous.

Cookie, bread malt (M); naval oranges, flowery hops (VH). Deep orange body. Moderately sweet, moderately bitter, lightly bitter flavor becomes a moderately sweet, very heavily bitter, lightly acidic finish. Medium-full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation. The bottom line is: really good, but just doesn’t have enough complexity to hold my attention.

220 Oz bomber courtesy of Sam's in Chicago. Ruby copper with the sort of head you need to coax out of it. Intensely strong and beautiful hop aroma. Malt is substantial, and given the nature of this beer, surprisingly balanced hop/malt quality. Hop characteris obviously stron, but not otherworldly in character. Nice carbonation. Given the heft if this beer and its balance, I'm surprisingly less than glowing in my overall enjoyment. The parts are there, but lacking the synergy of a world class beer. Its not bad by any definition of the word, and I would probably drink it often to satisfy a hop craving if it were readily available locally, but for me it is not one of the top 50 beers in the world.

Medium amber orange clear with a medium lasting pale orange-beige head. Super perfumed fruity peach and floral hops aroma. Clean beautifully balanced stone fruit sweetness and hoppy dry flavours with hints of marizipan and rosewater. The citrus floral character becomes a tad overwhelming in the long finish and aftertaste. Otherwise outstanding.

22oz - A sharp sticky hop filled nose. Nice orange color with medium off white head that stuck around for a while, nice lacing. It tastes very earthy. Strong hops that lingers with every sip. I brought this one in my carry-on from indy to San Diego. I’m not sure how old it is, but tastes like the sharp hop is flat from age. I will have a freshy and re-rate. 04/08/05 - 8,4,7,4,16=3.9

Re-Rate on 08/10/05 22oz - Fresh batch - Aroma is pure freshly picked hops. Poured a transparent brownish-orange with a small head and great lacing. Flavor slams with fresh hops then mellows out with a malty chaser. I could try to throw some other flavors in there, but they are getting their butts kicked by the fresh hops. Palate is sticky and tart. Much better fresh in my opinion.

Rerate- Just had my first bottle from the factory, what a beer. Easily my new favorite IPA. Well hopped. On tap this was excellent, I hope when its bottled it comes out as well.
