Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a cloudy deep amber with a minimal head. Aroma is very crisp and all citrusy grapefruit hop. Flavor is also very crisp with a ton of citrus hop and a nice malt balance. Truly one of the best of the IIPA style.

Bottled. Beer is clear, medium warm brown with a small, frothy, white, mostly diminishing head. Some seagulls of lacing holding to the glass.
Wall of hops hit the nose. The aroma is heavy with massive notes of grapefruit, pointed heavy notes of pine, moderate note of resin, light rosemaryish herb; Balanced out a little with large, soft, sweet malty notes of toasted grain, cookie and caramel; Yeasty with a light note of dough; Light miscellaneous note of alcohol. Very hop-centric, but pretty.
The flavor is moderately-to-heavily bitter, heavily sweet, moderately acidic with a long, heavy, sugary sweet, lightly bitter, lightly acidic and astringent finish. Grip hangs on. Alcohol is well tucked away.
The body is full, the texture is velvety and the carbonation is lively.

22oz bottle being enjoyed on my 37th birthday thanks to Maibockaddict. Had numerous samples on tap last year at Brewtopia ’04, but was in no shape to rate it then. Clear orange/amber color with a nice off white head. Big hop(amarillo?) aroma with lots of grapefruit and pine. Flavor was more balanced than I expected. Sure there were big hop flavors, but there was also a nice malty backbone. Hardly noticed the 9.5% until the bottle was finished. Must get more of this to keep on hand.

22oz.( all mine ).This thing smells.Smells so goll darn good find it hard to believe. How many words can you come up with for the aroma of a world class IPA ??Add them up put them in a bottle that say’s Three Floyds Dreadnaught IPA and you have it.This beer, when you take a sip demands that you take another. The body is heavenly not thick not thin but as Goldilocks would say: just right. You can’t come to the reality that a beer can taste like this.

Thanks to emacgee for the shared bottle. Golden orange pour. Citrus and mango on the nose, but also surprisingly malty and astringent. Not JUST a hop bomb! Very well balanced, more than any other IPA I’ve had. Good mouthfeel, and crisp finish. Really enjoyed this.

This had grapefruit and peach flavors with a hint of lemon and orange peel, floral perfume hoppy flavors, but not in a gross way. it seemed to compliment the dark fruits. slightly bitter on the finish and good mouthfeel. thanks to captaincougar for bringing this! it was amazing!
