Oily palate. Strong aroma of fruit and hops. Taste includes pine, citrus, and sweet caramel malty notes. The beer is pretty good, and well balanced for the style. The alcohol is there, yet rather well masked. A very good brew! glkaiser (1171), Seattle, Washington, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 6, 2006 This is a solid brew to be sure, but has nothing compared to other great IPA’s like Hercules, and Ruination. The pour was the normal yellowish color with a decent white head. The aroma was a little off in my opinion. The smells were of pine and hops. The taste just doesn’t overwhelm at all! This is supposed to be a hop monster, and it just doesn’t deliver. I was really let down with this beer, and I am suprised to see that it ranks so highly." GAManiac (1164), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 29, 2008 Updated: Oct 11, 2008Pours a hazy orangish amber with a small head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving a nice lacing and a few odd bubbles floating around the top. Big citrus hop blast up front with a nice sweet malty aroma to balance it out. Definitely getting major whiffs of orange and grapefruit with some background floral aroma as well. Initial sweet caramel, malty flavor makes way for the aforementioned citric hop blast. Final taste is of piny hops that I didn’t get as much in the aroma. Great balance between sweetness and bitterness. Very creamy mouthfeel with little carbonation. A very unique and terrific DIPA. It teeters on the brink of being over the top without quite tipping over. I’m not sure I could drink this all night, but I’d definitely seek it out. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Mar 14, 2005 Thanks to flemdawg for this beer.
Poured a clear effervescent amber with a fizzy off-white head. Good IPA aroma of clean hops and a touch of candy with no grass. The taste? Well, this is interesting. This is very, very interesting. Not at all what I expected. The first adjective in the commercial description is the word "massive". But "massive" was not the first adjective that came to mind with the first sip. Instead, something very different surfaced: smooth. Very, very smooth. I taste hops, loads and loads of clean tasty hops with no grassy aftertaste... but I don’t get an abrasive bitterness. I taste alcohol, peppery refreshing alcohol, but not an overwhelming dryness. And I taste a malt backbone, sweet and supportive, but no toffee and no stickiness. This is not the most assertive IPA I’ve had thus far. Rather, it is the smoothest. This is an IPA that could introduce people to the IPA. All this coupled with a nice, full body that one would hope from a beer this hyped. This is by all account a sipping beer, but not because it’s too harsh to drink in mass quantities. This is a beer to be sipped so as to prolong the experience for as long as possible. Thanks Jim for giving me this opportunity. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 10, 2004 Bomber courtesy of jsquire. Hazy deep orange amber colour with a frothy tan coloured head. Grapefruit, pine, caramel, toffee, and lightly floral and perfumed aroma. Fruity, caramel, and toffee malts leading to a grapefruit, tangerine, floral, and earthy bitter finish, with only slightly noticable alcohol. Full bodied and smooth mouthfeel. Yummy!
