Different batches, different ratings, some are better than others. It is still hard not to avoid the price increase this beer goes through each year, $4.99 in 03 to the present $11 in 06, is GWB associated with 3F?
Re-rate revisited: This beer has been more astrigent in the bottle and tap the last year(03) than should be expected(every other sample). None has matched, and been below, the second bottle from original purchase. Not worth the $8/bottle.
Bottle. A clear orange color with a medium creamy white head. Aroma of pine is big upon opening the bottle with the typical 3F citrus hops aroma coming out when poured into the glass. Extremely green, harsh, and raw. It is like chewing on a pine sprig with the harshness of the hops it feels like the pine needles sticking the inside of your mouth. A thick mouthfeel which you would expect from a 10% beer. A bitter and overpowering aftertaste that lasted through toothpaste and mouthwash until the next morning with peanut butter being the only way to get rid of it, disgusting. I always considered beer drinking to be an enjoyable event, you should not have to grimace and gag with every sip of beer. This makes Rogues Old Crustacean seem like a session beer. jcr (1154), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 5, 2005 No doubt an imperial IPA - lots of hops that leap from the glass to the nose — fresh grapefruit and pine. But then there is all the rest that sits on top an undercurrent of sweet malts. The flavor is filled with citrus, both the fruit and the bitter peel. Grapefruit, orange, lemon. The bitterness fills the mouth, but unlike an imperial IPA like Ruination, the malt balance reins in the hops. Great balance. One of my favorite beers to date. Beer poured a pale yellow color, nice big head and lacing all over the place. The aroma and flavor was big pine, HUGE grapefruit and a lot of bitterness to complement the a lot of sweetness going on. Really thick syrupy-like mouthfeel. I can see why the hopheads dig it and whilst I didn’t think I’d enjoy it...I really did. Kåstå (1149), Mol, Belgium
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 29, 2003 Light amber coloured beer with no head. Floral, citrus and hop aroma. The taste is another attack of the taste buds. A strong floral-hoppy taste. I realize that I am not really used to these rich tasting American brews. But I like trying and it is good beer. | 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Jun 12, 2008 8 oz. draft at the brewpub. Poured an "apple juice" gold/amber mixed hue with a small bright white head. Aromas are wonderous of floral hops, sweet malts, and mango. Initial taste provides a bitter tart hoppiness, with some wonderful peach / apricot notes that really are special. A nice bitter hoppy finish, but still refreshing and not overpowering despite its power (If that makes sense!!!). Medium bodied with a touch of pine in the finish that is noticeable half way through. Aftertaste lingers very well. A top notch beer that has some wonderful complexities. Will drink again. Cheers! matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA

~ Lets open this big baby up and see what awaits : OH yeah Baby! We have a deep and rich mahogany body; floating atop, a creamy compact tan head. The aroma is MONSTEROUS, Big with caramel and grapefruit, other notes include more grapefruit, & more caramel, as well as caramelized grapefruit & grapefruit and caramelized sugar, did I make my point? The flavor is about the exact same but I also find huge suggestions of Pine tree sap, peach juice and ripe pears.
Dreadnaught has a bittersweet, full and silky smooth palate as well as a delightful caramel, grapefruit and pine sap finish ……..Fantastic!
I’m going to be crumpped up when I finish this bottle, Nice!

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 16, 2006 Updated: Jan 27, 200822 oz. bottle. Slightly hazy orange pour underneath a medium off white head that persisted for several minutes. Huge hop aroma that is dominated by pine and citrus, but with a little floral character as well. Underneath, if you take the time you can detect some malt based aromas of light caramel. Medium full mouthfeel with a bit of a resinous quality as I would expect after being hit over the head with the hop aromas. There is a flash of malty sweetness before the hops hit, and the hit is substantial with grapefruit, pine, lemon peel, etc. The finish is long and bitter, but not overly so, at least for me. I’ve been waiting to get my hands on one of these, and I wasn’t disappointed.
