Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

2009-09-26. No notes. Sample on tap at the brewpub was a pretty solid IPA but does not quite live up to my memory of trying it in bottles in the past. Will see if my bottles from the brewery will live up to the previous experiences. On tap at Three Floyd’s, Munster.

July 2006. Bottle. Big citrus aroma with sweet orange and grapefruit that reminds me at times of a vidal icewine, muted malt but enough to be supportive, light spruce/pine branches. Fair bit of hoppy bitterness, light resin, sweet malty base. Medium to full body is just about perfect for the beer. Now I will stop writing and just enjoy this. Thanks very much for sharing guys! 9/4/9/4+/20 - 4.6 (Bumped a bit to offset the previous under rating!)

July 2004. Orange body, smallish but nice off white head. Big hoppy aroma, some orangey citrus. Vaguest hint of alcohol and some resin. Flavour is similarly very hoppy with plenty of hoppy bitterness as well. Dangerously quaffable, showing only a glimpse of the alcohol present. Very smooth, medium to full bodied palate. Leaves the tongue ravaged and spent in an oh so pleasant manner. Extremely good, to the point where I didn’t take notes equal to the beer because I was busy enjoying it. Thanks for this bottle Gunny. 8/4/9/4/18 - 4.3

Hotstuff and I went on a tour of their brewery. For $5 you get a 12oz glass of 3 of their beers. I thought this beer was not one of their better beers. The aroma was nice enough but its taste had an overpowering after bite that I did not like. The head was almost non existent. The color was very amber brown. Hotstuff gave it a 2 rating.

Re-Rate 17-01-2008: This really deserves a bit more in rating, as this was very full smooth and almost creamy like in feel. Hoppy yet sweet and very lovely to sip over a long period of time. 8 / 4 / 9 / 4 / 16 28-03-2007:8 / 3 / 9 / 4 / 14 Bottle. [Blind tasting session @ Sk8viking] #22 Small fizzy white head that was mostly diminishing. Good lacing. Light cloudy body with an amber hue. Aroma was very sweet fruit with a good mix of hoppy notes. Some malty notes can also be detected. Caramel, grain, toffee, tropical fruits, pine, grapefruit. Full bodied with a slightly dry texture. Moderated sweet with good balancing bitterness. Slightly sweet and dry finish. Excellent, would really like to taste this one again.

Bottle (MT) at ØLklubben (2006 edition). Clear golden - white head. High hoppy, peach, pepper, caramel, nice light sweetness, light soapy, light toasted. Fantastic.

(Bottled@Oliver Twist) Hazy, light whisky-brown color with a small head. Very strong, bitter and wineous ashy aroma of blackcurrant leaves. Dry and bitter, aromatic, stingy flavor with the blackcurrant leaves still present. ABV is quite well hidden with the hops. A bit raw brew, but surely pleases a hop fanatic. Looks an feels a bit like whisky. Seems quite a bit overrated here.

Bottle @ Odense smagning, august 2009. Pours hazy orange with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is deep... Lots of exotic fruits. Pine and orange. Smooth and crisp and with a lovely malty balance. Caramel, pine and grapefruit. Lovely

Bottle x3 or so. Pours a amber orange body with little head. Aroma is citrus, peach, floral notes. Huge hop character that destroys your palate. Almost a bit soapy. This beer is huge they could have probably stuck a few more abv points in here.

Golden orange appearance with an almost white head. Sweet, citrus hops taste all the way through. Alcohol is very well masked. Nice lacing down the side of the glass. A gravity pour cask of this beer is awesome!
