First smell was grapefruit, but I detected some roasted malt on my next. I had to keep smelling because of the complexity of the ale. Piney, hop-clean aroma. Forward hops on the tongue, maltiness, then a slightly bitter, full finish. Excellent balance. An enigma of a brew, so good. I find myself taking smaller and smaller sips because I know that at one point my glass will be empty. ghawener (960), San Salvador, El Salvador

| 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Oct 9, 2004 I finally get to rate this thanks to a trade with DarkElf! Pours a beautiful clear amber with a rocky off-white head. Aroma is very hoppy/citrusy but equally malty as well. Taste has strong notes of pine, hops, caramel and citrus/grapefruit. Just perfectly balanced with the malt and hops. Pretty sweet with a very bitter aftertaste and dry finish. Mouthfeel is very full, round and creamy with subtle carbonation, just glorious on the palate. Goes down a lot smoother than other I2PAs without losing any of its balls. Great head retention and lacing hangs on the glass in sheets. Without a doubt, one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Highly recommended! DUbrew (49), Bloomington, Indiana, USA

The taste is perfectly blended and pleasantly fruity; i didnt think i would ever like a fruity beer. The finish is amazing, and only calls for more. Three Floyds should be congradulated for making an amazing brew. NobleSquirrel (1110), Chicago, Illinois, USA

So here goes. Wow, what a beautiful shade of orange, like a dark orange soda with a nice white head and effervescent flow of bubbles throughout. Smell is amazing! Smell is quite hoppy, but subtle hints of orange candy, as well as peaches are present. Oh man, I can’t believe I get to taste this... Definitely hoppy, definitely malty. Definitely feel the alcohol warm in the chest. Now, what does it taste like? Definite variety of citrus fruits. Actually, tastes most like an uglifruit with grapefruit. Finish is outstandingly bitter and hopped to hell, but there is definitely some outstanding malt! What a balance! Man, this is superior to any IPA I’ve tried. Almost no aftertaste, except for a light, orange juice sort of aftertaste. Would be very refreshing, if used for that. Just an oustanding beer from my favorite brewery.
