Commercial Description:
A hophead’s dream beer. This Imperial India Pale Ale has an opening salvo of mango, peach and citrus hop aromas that sit atop a pronounced caramel malt backbone. Although Dreadnaught is a strong and intensely hoppy ale, its complex flavors is both smooth and memorable. 9.5% ABV, 100 IBUs.

I’ve had this bomber in my fridge for almost a week and have been wanting to suck it down for longer. So here goes. Wow, what a beautiful shade of orange, like a dark orange soda with a nice white head and effervescent flow of bubbles throughout. Smell is amazing! Smell is quite hoppy, but subtle hints of orange candy, as well as peaches are present. Oh man, I can’t believe I get to taste this... Definitely hoppy, definitely malty. Definitely feel the alcohol warm in the chest. Now, what does it taste like? Definite variety of citrus fruits. Actually, tastes most like an uglifruit with grapefruit. Finish is outstandingly bitter and hopped to hell, but there is definitely some outstanding malt! What a balance! Man, this is superior to any IPA I’ve tried. Almost no aftertaste, except for a light, orange juice sort of aftertaste. Would be very refreshing, if used for that. Just an oustanding beer from my favorite brewery.

Bottle from a store in Crystal Lake, IL. I wonder what happened to the two teenagers having sex behind the counter... Pours a deep, mysterious and seductive amber. A slow forming head appears as the liquid enters the drinking receptacle. Aroma is a pine forest with an orange grove intertwined among the plants. Nice harmony of bitter and sour aromas. Flavor is a thick, sugary yet bitter pine with just enough grapefruit and orange to keep things flowing toward the sour side. There is a strawberry or two in here, maybe even a bit of peach. Palate is about as coating as it gets, and it leaves the flavors to stir on the taste buds. I’ve been wanting this one for awhile, and it certainly was worth the wait. Must... have... more!

The dreadnaught is exactly as the name describes, it is fearless... it makes a beautiful thick opaque copper color followed by a nice just a tad darker than white head and makes a sticky lacing all the way down my glass. Smell is sweet of cereal malts with hints citrus fruit, but this is only a trap. Then the dreadnaught attacks with a hopped flavor like no other! It is a sweet candy coated hop cone in a glass. Full bodied and syrupy, sticky, leaving a thick coating on the mouth and throat. This is hop heaven... awesome stuff!

What a start! Pours phenomenally and aroma is top notch. Pine, spice and hops smells come off the beautiful amber body with creamy head. Flavor blends excellently... even though it is heavily hopped it doesn’t come off as overdone. Citrus/grapefruit, evergreen, hops, they’re all in a silky smooth package.

I’ve been waiting for this to come around for some time. I will take into account the price tag ($9/750ml) when rating. The pour is perfect, copper in color with a heavy off white head. The hop aroma is dominating - juicy grapefuit and orange mixed with fresh floral. It goes a little deeper and actually smells somewhat like the hop’s cooler, older brother, Cannabis. (Not that I would know though.) This is the hop-daddy. The little bit of sweet malt presence in the start is instantly swept away in a waterwall of hop flavor that just doesn’t stop. The finish is nicely balanced with strong notes of pine and just enough bitterness to leave you wanting more. This is alot of excitement for the taste buds all at once and probably should be enjoyed in moderation. At $9 a bottle, this brew is still rated Excellent.

22oz bottle. Pours a dark, golden amber/orange with a thin white head. Beautiful floral aroma with citrus, mago, and peach. Intense, balanced hops flavor with hints of citrus and pine. Incredible depth. This is a very drinkable Double IPA that has become one of my absolute favorites. An essential brew.

Bomber. Holy schnikes!! Gadzooks, this is simply insane beer. I have had ALOT of IPA and DIPA in the last few years, this is in the top 3. I paid big bucks (15) for a bottle since it’s not easily available here in my area. This is a great blend of the hoppy/bitter IPA’s and the more fruit forward IPA versions, best of both worlds. It is easy to see why this is continually ranked as best. If this Imperial was easily available here, I would be in huge trouble. I....must.....find.....more....please!!
