Taste was hoppy, flavors of grapefruit, citrus, with abundant piney notes, and roasted caramel malt to balance it out, and a wonderful full mothfeel. Outstanding! Sweet vanilla fudge aroma with pungeant hops and alcohol warmt. Sweet malt and wonderful pinhey hops, pineau de charente qualities, and burned nuts. Complex hops in mouth. Rich bodied. Bottle sampled with TiggMtl, MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere. From hopscotch...thanks my friend! lemonlovr (187), Lockport, Illinois, USA
| 4.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 5, 2005 My first impression of the aroma - and this was before I even poured it - was pine needles. Once I got it in the glass and got a proper smell, I noticed more intricate notes of citrus and perhaps a bit of apricot. The color is dark amber/orange with little head and light lacing. The flavor is where this brew really sticks out - it is very complicated and well-balanced. The fruity sweetness up front is almost perfectly balanced by the bitter hop finish. It’s almost like a caress followed by a slap in the face and I love it! The flavors I detect include apricot, orange, coffee, chocolate - there’s a lot here. The mouthfeel is a little on the "light" side but makes for a nice overall package. A very fine Imperial IPA from a very fine brewery. Aroma very citrusy; orange and grapfruit dominate, with some alcohol present. Flavor is bold and hoppy, again more citrusy than piney. Alcohol seems to be a bit too noticeable, which is why I took a few points off overall. This is a great beer! tjthresh (1781), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

One big whiff, kicked in the face with big time malt and big time hops. Hard to tell on the appearance since 3F serves in crappy plastic cups. Notes of caramel, bread, bisuits, citrus. Bitter all day. Sticky as hell. I will rerate. This beer probably deserves a 5, but I just can’t give it the 5 for apperance if I cant see it. Crosling (1856), Loveland, Colorado, USA
